EPA seeks comments about Wis. river-cleanup plan

MILWAUKEE — Federal officials are seeking public input about a proposed cleanup plan for a contaminated Milwaukee river.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a meeting June 28 to update the public and take comments.

The plan addresses the cleanup of contaminated sediment in the Burnham Canal.

Tests found that sediment there was high in metals including lead, nickel and zinc, along with compounds generally found in motor oils.

The EPA has proposed a $2.3 million cleanup plan to remove contaminated sediment and contaminated soil along one bank.

Those who can't attend the June 28 meeting can still submit comments through July 15.
