COD Police Chief Earns ICCTA Certificate of Merit

College of DuPage Police Chief Mark Fazzini of Homewood was recently awarded a 2011 Certificate of Merit from the Illinois Community College Trustees Association.

The Certificate of Merit is presented to individuals who have made a significant contribution to ICCTA, the Illinois community college system or an individual member college.

Fazzini has been the Chief of Police at COD for 11 years. He served as a trustee for three terms at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights from 1993 to 2011 and as an elected member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Community College Trustees from 1997 to 2003.

“While my work at Prairie State College was most likely the impetus for getting this award, my work and contributions at COD also played an important part in this honor,” Fazzini said. “I have always tried to put students and community interests first in my work with Prairie State, ACCT or on police matters at College of DuPage.”

Prior to COD, Fazzini was Police Chief at Olympia Fields Police Department, where he worked from 1975 to 2000. Fazzini is currently chairman of the Homewood Plan Commission and serves as the Homewood community member representative on the village's three TIF districts.

“I have been very fortunate to have worked with some truly inspiring individuals during my career who have made my experience a wonderful journey,” Fazzini said. “It's been a great run and I know I will miss my involvement in these communities when I retire early next year.”
