Aurora police hunt intruders at two residences
Aurora police are investigating two recent incidents in which residents woke to find strangers in their homes on the city's far east side.
Police said the most recent case was reported about 4:45 a.m. July 16 when a 29-year-old woman told investigators she woke to find a man who had been standing over her as she slept on a couch in an apartment in the 2700 block of Amli Lane.
The suspect was described as a male of unknown race, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing, the woman said, and fled when she asked him what he was doing.
The other incident was reported June 29 when a 54-year-old woman and 52-year-old man living in the 100 block of Fox Valley Drive woke after hearing a noise and found a man in their hallway peering into their bedroom, police said.
That suspect was described as a white man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He also fled.
Based on the time of the incidents and the similar description, police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said investigators have not ruled out the possibility they may be looking for only one suspect.
In both cases, the victims said they were unsure if they locked their doors before going to bed. Nothing appeared missing from either home.
"Obviously we feel great empathy for the victims of these crimes, but we must remind everyone to lock their doors and windows and take these opportunities away from criminals," Ferrelli said. "We're also advising folks to have proper lighting around and in their homes."
Police have received information a third incident may have occurred sometime in June, also in the 2700 block of Amli. However, they were not called and no further details are available.
