Domo 77 brings its Japanese, hibachi-style cuisine to Aurora
Serving quality, healthy food has been the primary goal for Eddie Ho over the years while growing his restaurant business.
Ho and his wife, Suzi, recently opened their third restaurant, Domo 77, at 4097 Healthway in Aurora near Westfield Fox Valley mall.
The Japanese steak and seafood restaurant primarily features hibachi-style dishes prepared tableside.
The Aurora eatery is the largest and most elaborate of the owners' three restaurants. Marble tables and a stainless steel kitchen with top of the line upgrades for ultimate cooking are highlights at the new locale, Eddie said. The restaurant features 24 tables that seats about 250 people.
The couple opened their first restaurant, Japan 77, in Glendale Heights at Army Trail and Bloomingdale roads in 1980. And in 1989 they launched Domo 77 in Wheaton at 2040 S. Naperville Road.
Eddie, the head chef, purchases the meats and seafood for the restaurant directly from suppliers, which ensures he's getting the freshest product at the best price, he said. He receives lobster tail directly from Canada.
A popular menu item is the filet and lobster combo selling for about $30. The garlic shrimp and chicken is another hot pick selling for about $18. All meals are served with soup, salad, vegetable and fried rice.
The Wheaton and Aurora locations feature a sushi bar. The Aurora location is the only restaurant that serves both lunch and dinner.
The Hos reside in Wheaton. Their daughter, Nari, helps out with the family business. Eddie, originally from South Korea, immigrated here in 1977.
That's where the 77 comes from in the business name. Domo means "thank you my friend" in Japanese.
Eddie attempts to give back to the community, primarily giving money to local high schools to support reading.
