It “Helped” That She Wrote a Bestseller

She made her fame and fortune writing about the uneasy and complicated relationship between blacks and whites in the 1960s South – namely, Jackson, Miss., -- which has helped author Kathryn Stockett secure a home north of the Mason-Dixon line.

With the success from “The Help,” which also turned into an Academy-Award-winning movie, Stockett has used some of her cash and cache to buy a co-op apartment in the East Village for $1.25 million.

The 1-bedoom, 1-bathroom prewar charmer enticed Stockett with its hardwood plank floors and its pair of wood-burning fireplaces. The building has a hold on young stars: Actress Chloe Sevigny owns a garden apartment there, too, which she has listed for $1.995 million.

Quiet Trim for Sassoon’s Stylish House

With his signature wedges and bobs, Vidal Sassoon turned haircuts into a pop-culture movement. Now, just a few months after the master stylist passed away from cancer in May 2012, the world gets another glimpse of the kind of style Sassoon liked in his home: Modern, sleek, stunning.

Sassoon’s Mulholland Dr. home in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles is on the market for $17.95 million, down from the $19.99 million Sassoon first sought when the house was first listed back in 2007.

The glass gem designed by Richard Neutra is called The Singleton House. It sprawls for more than 6,000 square feet and offers 360-degree views of the city of Angels, some of whom are probably sporting hairstyles influenced by the American master.

Easy Come, Easy Go?

Season 7 “American Idol” winner David Cook appears to be packing up his bag and heading … home to Missouri? That would be a fitting storyline for the understated crooner, given the title of last season’s winner Phillip Phillips’ hit song, “Home.”

Regardless of where Cook ends up, he will not be living in his Hollywood Hills home much longer. His pad on Durand Drive in Los Angeles was listed for $1.399 but has gone pending. While Cook released two records, including the platinum self-titled debut, his career has hit the pause button after his label dropped him this year.

Third Time a Charm for Hasselhoff?

After twice listing it before and making several additional price changes, “Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff has again listed his 9,000-square-foot home at 5180 Louise Ave. in Encino, Calif. The asking price this time is $3.79 million. Hasselhoff purchased the white-columned colonial in 1996 for $1.98 million. It sits on nearly a 1.5-acre lot with pool, spa and two 1-bed, 1-bath guesthouses.
