    The last time the Chicago Wolves hoisted the Calder Cup as champions of the American Hockey League was in 2008. Their road to the title ran through the Toronto Marlies in the best-of-seven Western Conference finals — and the Wolves prevailed in five games. The Wolves are looking to repeat history. The Wolves, who ousted the Rochester Americans in their first best-of-five playoff series, host the Marlies in Game 1 at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Game 2 at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.

    The Chicago Wolves rolled out the red carpet on Sunday, April 6, for senior Tim Gruensfelder, before the entire team congratulated him on the ice. Tim was awarded the Tim Breslin Memorial Scholarship, which recognizes a high school senior who has overcome great adversity. It was created in 2006 to honor the legacy of the former Wolves player, who died at the age of 37 of appendiceal cancer.

    It did not take long for left wing Dmitrij Jaskin’s presence in the Chicago Wolves’ lineup to be felt. Reassigned to the Wolves on Friday morning after six weeks away, Jaskin’s goal 1:06 into overtime gave Chicago a 4-3 win over Rochester in Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals at Blue Cross Arena.

    Jimmy Kimmel wore a suit made out of Rainbow Loom projects. Suburban Learning Express toy stores offer classes in Rainbow Loom. And the Chicago Wolves are hosting a Rainbow Loom Expo before the game on Sunday. Something about making jewelry and art out of rubber bands makes kids (and their parents) happy.

    The Chicago Wolves’ franchise-record 17-game home point streak came to an end Saturday night as Texas earned a 3-0 victory in front of 11,436 at the Allstate Arena. Jake Allen stopped 28 of 30 shots for the Wolves (35-19-4-2), who were shut out for just the second time this season.

  • Fenton students get French lesson from Wolves player Feb 26, 2014 7:16 PM
    Fenton High School students were able to say “bonjour” to one of the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday — and everybody knew what they were talking about. Alexandre Bolduc, a Montreal native and center for the Wolves, visited the Bensenville school to meet with students studying French and to participate in a question-and-answer session. Bolduc, who grew up in a dual-language household, answered questions primarily in French and occasionally in English.

    The Chicago Wolves earned a point for the seventh consecutive game, but Milwaukee claimed a 3-2 overtime victory Saturday night in a physical Amtrak Rivalry game at the Allstate Arena. Admirals center Austin Watson’s backhander filtered through goaltender Matt Climie’s legs for the game-winner with 22 seconds remaining in extra time.

    You can already get a mixed drink at the Allstate Arena, but soon a certain type of whiskey will have a special place at concerts, basketball and hockey games, and other events. A Jack Daniel’s club is being planned for the upper east side of the stadium where ticket holders can make drink and food purchases.

  • Wolves rally to sink Admirals in shootout Feb 9, 2014 5:28 PM
    The Chicago Wolves faced a 2-goal deficit twice, but rallied in the third period to force extra time and went on to edge the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 in a shootout Sunday in an Amtrak Rivalry game at the Bradley Center. Forward Nathan Longpre kicked things off with a shorthanded goal in the second period, while center Keith Aucoin and defenseman Cade Fairchild scored in the final frame to get the Wolves (27-16-3-2) to extra time. Right wing Sebastian Wannstrom and center Adam Cracknell were successful in the shootout, while goalie Jake Allen stopped all 4 of Milwaukee’s attempts to complete the comeback.

     
  • Wolves fall short in Wild finish Feb 7, 2014 11:04 PM
    The Chicago Wolves watched two leads evaporate as they dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Iowa Wild in a back-and-forth Midwest Division battle at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. Right wing Sebastian Wannstrom, defenseman Taylor Chorney and right wing Adam Cracknell tallied for the Wolves (26-16-3-2), while goaltender Matt Climie (6-8-0) kicked out 18 shots.

    Ten former Chicago Wolves returned to the Allstate Arena with the Utica Comets on Tuesday morning, but the current Wolves did not give them a warm welcome. The Wolves topped the Comets 4-2 in front of 11,488 enthusiastic students at the School-Day Game to earn their 10th victory in their last 11 home games.

    Kenny McCudden has worked with hockey players from mites to the pros. This week, he takes off on a dream trip to Sochi, Russia, with the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team. McCudden, the skating and skills coach for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, works in the same role for the U.S. women's team.
