    A local 14-year-old girl wrote, recorded and released a song on iTunes and a music video on YouTube to create awareness for reflex sympathetic dystrophy, also known as complex regional pain syndrome. The song, written by Danielle Stratton, is about her struggle with chronic pain over the last four years.

    Representatives for the striking teachers in Waukegan Unit District 60 praised Illinois State Board of Education Chairman Gery Chico for intervening and brokering a deal that ended a nearly monthlong walkout. “I don’t believe we would have been able to reach an agreement last night without the leadership of Chairman Chico,” Illinois Federation of Teachers President Dan Montgomery said.

    Gov. Pat Quinn Wednesday moved to intervene in the nearly monthlong Waukegan teacher strike, telling Illinois State Board of Education Chairman Gery Chico to try to strike a deal. But an accord still hadn’t been reached as of 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from Waukegan Unit District 60, and there is no school on Thursday.
