Wauconda District 118 expected to hire new AD Thursday May 14, 2013 12:00 AM
The Wauconda Unit School District 118 board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the district office, 555 N. Main St., to discuss new parent and student handbooks and other issues. The board also is set to hire a new athletic director, but the candidate's name has not been made public.

Stevenson’s a hit against Mundelein May 14, 2013 12:00 AM
Despite 3 errors, Stevenson was able to roll by North Suburban Conference Lake Division champion Mundelein 7-1 Tuesday. A steady stream of hits helped. The Patriots tallied 9 hits, thanks to a 3-for-3 effort out of Jimmy Marchese, who got one of his hits to go for a double. Zach Novoselsky drove in 2 runs while going 3-for-4 and Eli Greenspon also finished with 2 RBI. Pitcher Mitchell Goll got the win for Stevenson, which improves to 17-10. He gave up only 1 walk over six innings.

Sign of the times at Wauconda: 12-0 May 14, 2013 12:00 AM
As soon as Wauconda's baseball team finished its undefeated run through the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division, Bulldogs unfurled a splashy, colored banner, compliments of a generous parent. Included on the banner was Wauconda's NSC Prairie record: "12-0" Mind you, the sign was made in the morning — before the Bulldogs' 13-6 win over visiting Antioch on Tuesday. So if Antioch had beaten Wauconda, what would have become of the banner, which would have the Bulldogs' record incorrect? "I don't know," Wauconda coach Bill Sliker said with a laugh. "I guess I would have put it in the basement." Moot point now.

Bound for Ball State University, where she plans to study fashion merchandising, Antioch senior pitcher Katie Phillips was styling Tuesday. Never mind that she was wearing her softball uniform and sweating under the season's hottest sun. "I like clothes," a smiling Phillips said. While pitching Antioch to a 5-1 win over host Wauconda in the teams' North Suburban Conference Prairie Division finale, Phillips dusted off her old outfielder skills.

Wauconda's baseball team moved one step closer Monday to completing a perfect run through the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division. The Bulldogs defeated host Antioch 5-2, as Brandon Gibis earned the win over David Meade in a battle of aces.

Taking control of the North Suburban Conference boys tennis tournament is starting to be an annual event for Stevenson. The Patriots netted another NSC title on Saturday, topping Lake Forest 38-28.5 for the top spot in the event hosted by Wauconda and completed at the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex. Warren edged Libertyville 23.5 to 23 for third place. Jeremy Bush of Stevenson was victorious over Warren's Kristiyan Trukov in straight sets for the No. 1 singles championship, and the Patriots captured all three of their doubles matches over the Scouts.

Cary-Grove and Huntley renewed their rivalry at the sectional, but both Fox Valley Conference squads wound up chasing Hononegah. After finishing 1-2 at Monday's FVC meet, the Trojans and Red Raiders turned in strong performances again at the Class 3A Belvidere North sectional Thursday night, but neither squad could catch the Indians, who took first with 85 points. Cary-Grove finished second with 75 while Huntley was third with 59.
