SPRINGFIELD- Currently there are more than 2 million Illinoisans who are eligible to vote, but aren't registered. To alleviate this problem, State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) sponsored Senate Bill 250, which would automatically register eligible citizens when they renew their drivers' license or state ID.
U of I Extension honors Kane County Master Gardeners

University of Illinois Extension celebrated its Kane County Master Gardeners with an awards and appreciation night. The volunteer group already has completed more than 4,500 hours of service for 2016. "They already have surpassed last year by 1,000 hours, and we still have two months left this year!," said Sarah Fellerer, Master Gardener program coordinator.
Auction at Geneva church raises $4,000 for local organizations

Wheaton Montessori School Offers December Open Houses

Wheaton Montessori School will be opening its doors for an Open House in late December. Parents and families of prospective students are welcome to tour the school and learn more about the school and its educational philosophy. The school is offering two dates: Thursday, December 8th from 6:30-7:30pm and Saturday, December 10th from 9-10am. The school is excited to announce that it has opened enrollment for a fourth preschool-Kindergarten classroom for this coming January. Interested families are encouraged to attend the open house, meet the teachers and staff and tour the new facilities.
FIA to organize Indian heritage event with Windy City Bulls

Elmhurst, IL: Federation of Indian Associations, Chicago, (http://www.fia-il.com/), will organize an Indian heritage event on Friday, January 6th, as its first project for 2017, in partnership with Windy City Bulls, the official NBA D-League Affiliate of the Chicago Bulls. The basketball sport event will take place at Sears Center Arena, from 7 PM.
College of DuPage Celebrates Veterans Day at Assembly and Annual Read-In

College of DuPage employee and veteran Erick Flores sings the "Star Spangled Banner" Nov. 11 as part of a series of events to commemorate Veterans Day. College President and retired Navy Vice Admiral Dr. Ann Rondeau, Board Chairman Deanne Mazzochi and Board Vice Chairman David Olsen, along with faculty, staff and students gathered to celebrate the service of College and community former service members at the annual observance. The event featured a Colors Ceremony, visiting reps from various veteran organizations, an exhibit of artifacts from branches of the Armed Forces and the tenth annual Veterans Read-In. COD Forensics Team Begins 2016-2017 Season With Team and Individual Wins

The College of DuPage Forensics Team earned team and individual awards as it begins the 2016-2017 winter season. The team competed against other community colleges and four-year institutions at Northern Illinois University during the 2016 M. Jack Parker Debate tournament. The first parliamentary debate tournament of the season, the COD teams reached the finals in both the first-year "Novice" division and the four-year "Open" division. Harris Salim (Woodridge) and Gabbi Gruver (Naperville) were awarded second place in the Novice Parliamentary Division. Additional COD competitors included Katrina Caluza (Aurora) and Liz Fritz (Naperville).
DuPage Community Jazz Ensemble Performs Dec. 1 at the MAC

DuPage Community Jazz Ensemble presents an evening of jazz standards and new arrangements at a 7:30 p.m. performance Thursday, Dec. 1, in Belushi Performance Hall at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., in Glen Ellyn. The Dec. 1 concert features guest baritone saxophonist Tom Zimney, vocalist Deb Zelman and ensemble members performing the classic jazz standards of Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, John Birks Gillespie and others.
