    A veteran Round Lake High School physical education teacher who claims to be a marijuana activist is due in court next month on drug-related and other charges, authorities said. Round Lake Police Chief Michael Gillette said the instructor, Gina Epps, was on her lunch break Jan. 29 when she was pulled over on a traffic stop. “She's a marijuana activist,” Gillette said. “That's what she told the officer.”

The assistant superintendent of business and operations, Bill Johnston, said while the district has had a building use process in place “for a long time,” it never was documented or followed consistently because of what had been frequent turnover in the facilities department.

    Four Round Lake High School students went on a soapbox before elected officials and administrators and touched on issues such as bullying and their school's image. Sophomores Lluvia Chavarria, Alex Munoz, Ariana Melesio and Becky Guo made the presentations as members of the Schuler Scholar program and a summer writing workshop called Project Soapbox. The program is operated by the privately funded Schuler Family Foundation.
