Trustees should accept low bids
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM A Round Lake letter to the editor: I’m not sure what the four village trustees were thinking Tuesday night when they voted against a low bid for the police maintenance contract.

Skala for McHenry County Board
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM Letter to the Editor: As the election approaches, I hope to see Mike Skala elected to the McHenry County Board for District 5. Through his leadership and experience as president of the District 158 school board, our district has exhibited fiscal responsibility while attaining high student achievement.

Tibali’s credentials for coroner unmatched
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM Letter to the Editor: Dr. Robert Tiballi is the most imminently qualified candidate for the Kane County Coroner Republican primary in March. It is obvious. His knowledge of the human body and management skills are without question.

GOP no friend to the middle class
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM Get ready to feast on crumbs, if you’re one of the lucky ones.

Let cars, not drivers, control the speed
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM - If speeding cars around schools and parks is as risky as portrayed by the Chicago mayor, then the introduction of monitoring cameras to attempt to fine offending motorists and hopefully change their driving habits seems hardly a robust enough solution.
-
Nurture innovation to fix economy
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM - The antipathy toward the highly successful 1 percent of in our society seems to be based upon an assumption that these folks don’t deserve their success and/or that they have somehow not played fair in their dealings.
-
On abortion, what are we thinking?
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM Letter to the Editor: Today’s esteemed lawmakers and jurists steadfastly defend judicially-established reproductive rights as their self-absorbed rationale for ending human life. Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot together murdered some 35 million human beings and we accurately condemn them as heinous, horrific and evil scoundrels. Yet we Americans, over the 40 years since Roe vs. Wade became the law of the land, have selectively and systematically exterminated 53 million babies under some convoluted, fabricated “right” to an abortion.

Candidate screening process appreciated
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM For those of us who are dedicated to public service, I would like to thank DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin for the open and transparent selection of the District 4 seat, which was vacated by Debra Olson’s resignation and for which I was considered as an interim replacement.
-
Why do we pay for these bad ‘choices?’
Feb 23, 2012 12:00 AM The use of contraceptives is a lifestyle choice made by those engaging in “love making.” The purchase of contraceptives is not prohibited by any laws, and they are available everywhere. Why pick on religious hospitals? Need money, run a Bingo game in your church, just leave mine alone.

Koehler goes to bat for McHenry County
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM Letter to the Editor: As Algonquin village president, I have worked with Ken Koehler for many years on a variety of projects. None has more impact to McHenry County than the transportation infrastructure. Ken has been a driving force in acquiring funding and negotiating for these and other transportation projects. Re-elect him.

President never leaves job at office
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM Apparently some readers of the Daily Herald, critical of President Obama, think that he is the first president to have to campaign for re-election during the last year of his first term.

Birth control issue is about freedom
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM I don’t believe the Catholic Church is trying to judge anyone by not wanting to be forced to give out birth control to its employees because it is against what the Church teaches.
-
Lincoln was indeed a practicing Christian
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM It is a shame someone would submit such rank ignorance and falsehoods for print in a newspaper about the president many believe to be the nation’s greatest.
-
Skala will work hard for McHenry County
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM Letter to the Editor: While I will be sad to see him leave the District 158 school board, I know Mike Skala will do great things for McHenry County if elected to the county board.
-
Has anyone read the state constitution?
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM Letter to the Editor: Perhaps the General Assembly has a good idea in foisting the pensions on the local school districts. Perhaps each district could start a districtwide lottery with the funds going to education. After all, that worked so well for the state.

A conflict about individual liberties
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM The controversy about medical coverage of contraception, is at its core a conflict between individual liberty and organizational dictates. The administrative rule only requires optional, equal access be provided by an employer to all employees.

Kudos to candidate for salary idea
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM Congrats to Lauren Nowak. It’s about time that those in office have to account for their time. I’d be willing to bet none of them spend 40 hours a week on their political job. I use to work 40 hours a week and never earned $50,000, and this is supposed to be a part-time job.

A little too much of big brother?
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM Jesse White’s recent post proposes embedding people’s personal information into driver’s licenses and ID cards. He’s apparently talking about an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip.

Regional VA not doing its job
Feb 22, 2012 12:00 AM A Mundelein letter to the editor With all the issues in the news during this election cycle, the economy, abortion and jobs, one important issue has been forgotten, veteran’s issues.
