    Agricultural county fairs have a long tradition in Illinois, but the impact goes far beyond delightful squeals from children on the Tilt-A-World and sticky fingers from cotton candy. In a cooperative effort, University of Illinois Extension and the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs, fair-goers in 15 counties will be surveyed to assess the economic impact of Illinois' agricultural fairs.

An informational meeting for those wishing to apply for funding will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, in Conference Room A of the McHenry County Administration Building, at 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.Applications are due to the county by end of business on Monday, Aug. 4.

    The Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services division of the McHenry County Emergency Management Agency will be participating in Field Day Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29. The Field Day station will be located behind the maintenance facility at 12394 Ware Road in Woodstock. Parking will be off Route 47, Seminary Avenue, just north of Ware Road.

  • Motorcyclist injured in Lake in the Hills crash dies Jun 10, 2014 5:35 PM
    A motorcyclist involved in a collision with a car Monday afternoon near Lake in the Hills has died of his injuries, authorities said. Christopher Q. Gramer of Lake in the Hills was riding a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Algonquin Road at Lake Drive when it crashed into a 2010 Ford Focus traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road, turning north onto Lake Drive.

     
  • Benefit set for Huntley man with cancer Jun 10, 2014 7:17 PM
    When David Miles got a piece of steak lodged in his throat, it changed his life forever. Miles, 53, of Huntley was diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer in October 2013. Since then, he has been treated with radiation and chemotherapy to shrink the cancer, and endured a seven-hour surgery to remove his esophagus. A fundraiser for Miles is planned at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at the Bowl Hi Lanes, 10520 Route 47, Huntley.
