    The rest of the hurdlers never had a chance against Burlington Central junior standout Lucas Ege in Friday’s 41st Annual Crystal Lake Central Invitational at Metcalfe Field. Ege won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.28 and claimed top honors in the 300 hurdles in 39.4. “This was good competition tonight and I will get better as the competition gets better,” said Ege. “I still have a lot of work to do before the sectionals.” Ege was one of the main reasons the Rockets finished second with a score of 91 points. Kaneland, which won its second straight title, overpowered the field with 160.5 points.

Holubecki (4-1) lived up to his top billing Monday afternoon, allowing just 2 hits while racking up 9 strikeouts in 6 innings of work during the Knights’ 2-0 Northern Illinois Big 12 East triumph over Yorkville (14-7, 4-2) in Maple Park.

    A team of 25 Fox Valley area high school students will compete in the FIRST Robotics World Finals this week in St. Louis. More than 2,700 teams made up of 68,000 high school students worldwide vied for a spot in the finals at regional, state and international competitions. The Fox Valley area team is among roughly 400 teams that qualified.
