    One in three Americans is now a stepparent, a stepchild, a step sibling, or member of a blended family. That’s a big change from the ‘Leave it to Beaver’ days. The fact is; the traditional nuclear family (families where both parents are married and live together) is on the decline, from 45 percent of households in 1960 to 23 percent this year. Sept. 16 is National Step Family Day, which raises awareness for this growing demographic of families.

    The co-founder of the Chain O’ Lakes Fireworks Committee pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges she stole $8,700 from the group. Noreen Michael, 47, former president of the not-for-profit organization, stood silently while her attorney entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.

  • First Human Case of West Nile Virus Reported in Lake County for 2014 Sep 10, 2014 10:23 AM
    The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center reports that a 48-year-old male resident of Gurnee tested positive for West Nile virus. He was hospitalized and released. This is the county’s first West Nile virus human case in 2014. Last year, there were six confirmed human cases in Lake County.
