His expertly crafted songs are filled with witty humor and aching honesty, and have been recorded by artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, Mose Allison, and his son Rufus Wainwright.
Second annual golf outing June 20 to benefit paralyzed mother

Sign up for the second annual Eileen Strong Golf Outing event to honor a paralyzed local mother and wife Eileen Reedy June 20 at the Golf Club of Illinois. A fall in 2014 left her paralyzed from the chest down. With the community's support, the determined mother of three has regained some movement in her arms and legs and can walk with a walker for a short distance. Proceeds from the second annual golf outing will be collected through the nonprofit HelpHOPELive to help cover the uninsured expenses associated with Eileen's injury, which exceeded $800,000 in 2015 and will continue to exceed $200,000 annually.

The Huntley Area Tea Party will hold its general meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the Huntley American Legion. The documentary, "Tea Party," follows the struggles of five grassroots individuals and their transformation from hometown rally-goers and rally organizers to national activists in the 9/12 March on Washington.

The Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation in McHenry will celebrate its Sesquicentennial April 23-24 with a series of events in Woodstock and McHenry. A busy weekend of activities will start with a tour of its old Woodstock home, now the Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. The temple has renovated the sanctuary space but has maintained the historic stained glass windows dating to the first decade of the 20th century.
