  • Sears borrows $400 million as losses increase Sep 16, 2014 7:40 AM
    Sears Holdings Corp. is taking a $400 million short-term loan from the hedge fund owned by its chief executive officer and largest shareholder, Edward Lampert. Lampert’s ESL Investments provided $200 million as of yesterday and will fund the remainder on Sept. 30, Hoffman Estates-based Sears said in a regulatory filing. The money will be used for “general corporate purposes.”

    One in three Americans is now a stepparent, a stepchild, a step sibling, or member of a blended family. That’s a big change from the ‘Leave it to Beaver’ days. The fact is; the traditional nuclear family (families where both parents are married and live together) is on the decline, from 45 percent of households in 1960 to 23 percent this year. Sept. 16 is National Step Family Day, which raises awareness for this growing demographic of families.

The U.S. had already won the first three matches to clinch the series, assuring a spot in the 2015 World Group.

    Americans Bob and Mike Bryan routed Norbert Gombos and Lukas Lacko 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 Saturday in doubles to clinch the Davis Cup World Group playoff against Slovakia. The U.S. secured its spot in the 2015 World Group as the Bryans’ lopsided victory followed singles wins Friday night by John Isner and Sam Querrey at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.
