Nominations for kids, age 6 to 18, will be accepted Jan. 30 to March 13 at kohlskids.com. “Children around the country are doing inspiring work in their communities every day and Kohl's is proud to reward these future leaders through the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program,” said Bevin Bailis.

More than 100 exhibits showcase academics, research, and student development opportunities. Students can also learn about study-abroad programs, how ACES graduates are using their degrees, and tips on applying for more than $2.5 million in scholarships within the College of ACES.

  • Lake in the Hills to get gastropub this spring Jan 29, 2015 4:56 PM
    A gastropub will be opening this spring in the former Applebee’s building off Randall Road in Lake in the Hills. The pub will serve high-end craft beer and food, said owner Dave Abraham of Hoffman Estates. It will be named Woods Creek Tavern after one of the largest lakes in the village. “We wanted to tie in with the local community,” Abraham said.

    Though Hoffman Estates has worked hard in recent years to keep Sears Holdings Corp.’s headquarters in the village, candidates for village trustee differ greatly in their forecast of the company’s long-term presence. Former trustee Cary Collins, who is challenging incumbents Anna Newell, Gary Pilafas and Gary Stanton for one of three village board seats, says the village should be making plans for life without the retailer.
