  •  Members of the College of DuPage Faculty Association marched down Lambert Road in Glen Ellyn last month to call attention to stalled contract negotiations. Union officials announced early Saturday they reached a tentative agreement with the college’s administration. To take effect, the deal must be approved by the union’s membership and the college’s board of trustees.

    Negotiating teams for the College of DuPage and the school's faculty association have reached a tentative contract agreement — just days before a contract imposed by COD's board of trustees was set to take effect. The deal was struck just after midnight Saturday — the result of bargaining sessions on Thursday and Friday that lasted a combined 25 hours, said Faculty Association President Glenn Hansen.

They plan to make a difference. Prentiss, of Batavia, has been cancer free for two years. She is also the school’s drill team head coach. Many of her past and presents students from the team were there to support her at the relay.

    Just when you thought it was all over, the soap opera between the College of DuPage and village of Glen Ellyn continues. The college is going back to court Monday to argue that the village isn't abiding by the spirit — if not the letter — of a mediation agreement that transferred jurisdictional control of the 273-acre campus from the village to DuPage County. In the court motion, COD's attorneys called village officials "overzealous advocates" of the college's campus expansion plans, pointing to their testimony at recent county zoning meetings and an objection letter they sent to the county's economic development and planning department.

    I first visited Zak's Place a few years back, shortly after it opened. I recall good, non-risky food for the country club set. Yet, it seemed like a good time for a return visit. I was glad its grilled romaine salad — topped with smoky, spicy chipotle ranch — remained. From there it was on to the rest of the menu. Throughout the meal, portions were large and service was friendly. There's no question about why Zak's is a suburban hit.
