    The Buffalo Grove Park District has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The award honors excellence in the district’s comprehensive annual financial report.

     
  • Buffalo Grove parks leader Schimmel retiring; deputy set to take over Mar 31, 2014 1:39 PM
    Buffalo Grove Park District Executive Director Dan Schimmel will retire at the end of the year, the district announced Monday, ending a nearly 24-year run with the district that included roles in the construction of the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center and Buffalo Grove Golf and Sports Center facilities. He will be replaced by the agency’s current deputy director, Ryan Risinger.

    Heloise Jacobs, 9, was on a scavenger hunt for antique, old-fashioned general store items on Saturday at the Raupp Museum in Buffalo Grove. The hunt was at the opening of the newly renovated Crossroads exhibit, which includes replicas of the Prairie View train station, the Weidner general store and the Geimer greenhouse. “It’s a cool way to see the new display,” Heloise said.

     
  • Buffalo Grove Parks holding rain barrel sale Feb 27, 2014 3:52 PM
    The Buffalo Grove Park District Environmental Action Team is currently taking orders for rain barrels and composters, which will be available for pickup from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, at Mike Rylko Community Park. These 55 gallon barrels come is variety of colors and cost $60 each. Each barrel comes with a spigot, is insect resistant and easy to install. Accessories are also available.

    The Illinois Association of Park Districts Board Member Development Program is for board members from IAPD member park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies. This program that began in 1997 gives recognition to those who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty to better themselves as board members.

     
  • Sen. Kirk helps Arlington Heights veteran get medals 67 years later Nov 11, 2013 9:52 PM
    Some long overdue honors were presented Monday to Northwest suburban veterans — along with a reminder to thank them everyday — at the Buffalo Grove Park District's annual Veterans Day Celebration. The highlight was Sen. Mark Kirk's presentation of four medals earned during World War II to retired U.S. Navy Radio Technician Second Class George Boesen of Arlington Heights.

    Flag Day is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for the flag, its designers and makers. The flag is representative of independence and unity as a nation with a proud history. Buffalo Grove was among the places that held a Flag Day ceremony last Friday. The ceremony was held at Veterans Park, 1300 N. Weiland Road.

     
  • Adult park behavior targeted in Buffalo Grove May 31, 2013 5:31 PM
    The Buffalo Grove Park District last week began posting signs near athletic fields as part of an effort to curb inappropriate adult behavior during youth sports games. “I didn’t realize how prevalent this problem was until my son played soccer, and then I eventually became a volunteer coach,” said Buffalo Grove Park District marketing manager Mike Terson.
