Stalberg’s speed replaces Bollig’s muscle in lineup Jun 17, 2013 12:00 AM
Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville went back to Viktor Stalberg’s speed over Brandon Bollig’s muscle for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday. Stalberg was back in the Hawks’ lineup after being a healthy scratch for the first two games while Quenneville went with the more physical Bollig.

Patrick Kane and Boston Bruins winger Tyler Seguin were teammates when the hockey season started. During the NHL lockout, they both played for EHC Biel in Switzerland. Now one of them is going to win his second Stanley Cup. Kane talks about the bond and friendship that developed between them in Switzerland.

Tough go for Blackhawks without Hossa Jun 17, 2013 12:00 AM
After trying to take the warmup, Marian Hossa was a late scratch with an upper-body injury, and the Blackhawks couldn’t overcome the loss of their second-best all-around player Monday night. The result was a 2-0 loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. “We’re hopeful he’ll be ready for the next game,” Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

Team wake-up call works wonders for Bruins Jun 16, 2013 12:00 AM
The Bruins looked like two different teams in Game 2 on Saturday — the one that let the Blackhawks do whatever they wanted to in the first period, then the one that dominated the second and third periods and most of overtime. “I don’t think there’s an explanation,” Boston defenseman Dennis Seidenberg said. “I think it was just us not being mentally ready. I wish we had one, so we won’t do it next game. Again, not being mentally ready is the only thing to think about. It happened, and we just have to be ready from the first minute in the next game.”

Murray: Hawks’ speed gives them an edge Jun 16, 2013 12:00 AM
Troy Murray says when it comes to OT, where the Blackhawks have an advantage is in their team speed and the ability to come at you with a great intensity and a great pace. "But when that pace starts to waver — whether it’s in an overtime or if fatigue starts to set in — then the game starts to slow down and in some ways I think that is an opportunity for Boston to execute their style a little more," he said.

Hawks’ power play leaving a lot to be desired Jun 16, 2013 12:00 AM
The Blackhawks’ power play continues to come under some serious scrutiny. The Hawks are 0-for-6 in the first two games and lost momentum off the special team in Game 2, which they ultimately lost 2-1 in overtime. “I know that both sides, they’re looking for their power play to get some production because there’s not a lot of high-quality chances 5-on-5,” Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. “But at the same time we’ve got to look to, you know, maybe simplify it and play anything at the net, the second and third opportunities around there.

Blackhawks, Bruins may be at this awhile Jun 16, 2013 12:00 AM
The Stanley Cup Final is tied at a game apiece, as it should be after each team won a game it probably should have lost. Just a reminder that the Blackhawks and Bruins seem destined to go the distance.

Rask more than fills Thomas’ skates for Bruins Jun 16, 2013 12:00 AM
Boston coach Claude Julien admitted he didn’t know exactly what to expect when Tim Thomas, the Bruins’ 2011 Conn Smythe-winning goaltender, walked away from the game, leaving the starting gig to former backup, Tuukka Rask. As it turned out, there was nothing to worry about.

For Hawks, no celebrating this timeJun 16, 2013 12:00 AM
For the second time in two games, the Blackhawks and the Bruins needed extra time to decide a winner. This time it wasn't the Hawks doing the celebrating. Daniel Paille's goal at 13:48 of the first overtime gave Boston a 2-1 win and evened the Stanley Cup Final at 1-1 heading into Game 3 on Monday at TD Garden.

Bruins certainly a challenge in every way for Hawks Jun 16, 2013 12:00 AM
If the Blackhawks have learned anything from the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final, it’s that this isn’t 2010 — and the Boston Bruins aren’t the Philadelphia Flyers. For starters, Tuukka Rask is a legitimate NHL goalie, and a good one, not like Michael Leighton, who had his best seasons in the minors. The Hawks are in deep here. They have come up against a team with depth as good as theirs, just as fast and with big, strong defensemen.

Kane says Hawks need to overcome Game 3 blahs Jun 15, 2013 12:00 AM
Patrick Kane knew heading into Game 2 Saturday night at the United Center just how crucial a victory over Boston would be for the Blackhawks. And not just because the Hawks would go up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final and retain home-ice advantage in the process, but because Kane realized how his team had played in Game 3s thus far this postseason. In a couple of words: not good.

Whistle takes away Hawks goal in 1st Jun 15, 2013 12:00 AM
Oh, what might have been. Leading 1-0 on Patrick Sharp’s goal midway through the first period and looking in full control against a Boston team clearly on its heels, the Blackhawks looked like they had just applied a mini-dagger to the Bruins.

Fatigue setting in with another OT? Jun 15, 2013 12:00 AM
Eventually, even some of the best-conditioned athletes in the world succumb to exhaustion. Adrenaline plummets to “E.” Sweat-soaked hockey pads and gloves feel like sandbags on shoulders under a Sahara sun. After playing nearly three full overtimes in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Blackhawks and Bruins followed up by — what the heck — playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation time Saturday night at the United Center.

Hawks’ small Shaw is big on heart Jun 15, 2013 12:00 AM
Andrew Shaw called it “luck,” attached to another emotional outburst for which he received unconditional absolution from Rocky Wirtz during a morning-after radio appearance by the Chairman of the Blackhawks. But as long as we’re on the subject, why not reach for a hat trick of rhymes and settle on “pluck”? Those who have observed his brief yet busy career will attest that Shaw, the “Pocket Pest” whose given weight of 180 pounds seems a bit lofty, has a competitive gene that leads him into areas where angels fear to tread.

Bruins remind Blackhawks this will be long series Jun 15, 2013 12:00 AM
The Blackhawks came out on fire in Game 2, but couldn’t sustain that pressure and the Bruins took it to them, tying the Stanley Cup Final by winning in overtime.

Blackhawks’ Keith sees a more mature Kane Jun 15, 2013 12:00 AM
There are no subjects off limits during the Stanley Cup Final, not even Patrick Kane’s reputation as a guy who loves a good party. “I think he’s always been a little bit misunderstood in some ways,” said Blackhawks teammate Duncan Keith. “Every guy likes to go out and have fun, especially when you’re a young guy. “He’s no different. Sometimes it just kind of got caught on camera, pictures, things like that. Maybe one incident sticks out in people’s heads.”
