    The Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva raised more than $5,000 for local humanitarian organizations at its “Saturday Night Feverish” auction. More than 100 people packed the church’s historic sanctuary to bid on a variety of items, including baskets of donated goods and services from local businesses and church members. Funds raised are being divided equally between Lazarus House and Mutual Ground.

The youth took part in fun, age-appropriate, research-based activities with trained staff and volunteers.

Foremost are the twins she is expecting, but the third gift was a complete surprise. “I gave my studio to Ashlie,” said founder Linda Cunningham, who lives in Batavia. “It was my Oprah moment. I said, ‘hey, I want to talk to you about something. I have a gift for you.’ She was blown away.”

    Prosecutors say Chase West is eligible for up to 75 years in prison if convicted of attempted murder. West is one of three men accused of attempted murder in the shooting of three workers during an armed robbery Sept. 4 at a KFC restaurant in Aurora.

    The Humanitarian Service Project of DuPage County is calling for donations of new toys and nonperishable food to support underprivileged children and families through its annual Christmas Offering. It has been putting gifts under the tree for local children in need since 1979. This year, it is projected to serve 350 families with nutritious groceries as well as provide 1600 children and 125 seniors with Christmas gifts.

    A new aldermanic candidate filed nominating petitions Tuesday to seek the 1st Ward seat in Aurora. The post, held by appointed alderman Tina Bohman, did not draw any candidates Monday when the filing period opened for the spring municipal election. But on Tuesday, Fred Collier filed petitions with the Aurora Election Commission to run for the position representing a section of northeast Aurora located completely in Kane County.
