  • Wanner winners can rest well May 2, 2014 11:52 PM
Following his sixth race of the night, all Schaumburg junior Shandall Thomas wanted to do was sleep. Figure that Thomas and his Saxon teammates ended up sleeping quite well, especially following one of the top performances in the history of prestigious Knights Wanner Invitational at Gattas Field at Prospect High School on Friday night. Not only did the Saxons 400 and 800 relays break that had lasted 28 years, they did so in such dominant fashion that the usually prominent distance events took a back seat to the sprints. The 45th annual edition of the meet was so sprint-strong that even meet champion York, which has a long history of distance success, flashed impressive sprint depth.

  • Glenbard West’s Graham runs away from field Apr 26, 2014 10:23 PM
Lindsay Graham impersonated Madeline Perez to the letter Saturday afternoon in Glen Ellyn. Perez, the Glenbard West defending Class 3A girls track and field state champion at 1,600 and 3,200 meters, has yet to make her outdoor season debut this spring. But Graham, the Hilltoppers’ sophomore transfer from Glenbard East, more than answered the call of the Georgetown-bound Perez. At the Sue Pariseau Invitational, Graham ran a pair of strategically flawless races in claiming the titles at the two longest open distances. After seizing command of the 3,200 run on the seventh lap to win in 10 minutes, 54.07 seconds, Graham returned with a flourish at 1,600 meters.
