  • York back in familiar spot; Glenbard West fourth in Silver May 11, 2013 12:00 AM
This is the York track program coach Stan Reddel knows. Entering the outdoor season he recalled the 2012 campaign when the Dukes lost the West Suburban Conference Silver indoor meet and were unable to rally to win outdoors. "That's not our tradition," the hall of fame veteran said at the time. The Dukes regained form Saturday at the WSC Silver meet at Concordia University in River Forest. Bounding back since its indoor loss in March, York's 162 points outranked Lyons Twp. (141), Oak Park (90), Glenbard West (66), Downers Grove North (56) and Hinsdale Central (42). Proviso West scored 1 point.

  • With Abello out, pressure on Benet May 6, 2013 12:00 AM
Benet is about to play a game of musical chairs no softball team wishes for. That's after sophomore catcher Stephanie Abello hurt her wrist Saturday at Marian Catholic when she banged into a fence chasing a pop-up. A trainer on site thought the wrist could be broken, but X-rays that evening came back negative. Abello will likely go for an MRI Tuesday.

  • Kendziera shines in Wanner Apr 26, 2013 12:00 AM
If anyone wondered why Prospect's boys track team had ascribed the nickname "Super Dave" to senior Dave Kendziera, they need not look further than the performance put up by Kendziera at the 45th annual Knights Wanner Invitational at Gattas Stadium in Mt. Prospect on Friday night. On a night where the meet had to be run earlier because the stadium lights at Gattas Stadium did not work, Kendziera kept the track well lit with his sparkling performances. He took home the top spot in the 300 hurdles running the fastest time in the state so far this spring (38.45). But Kendziera's top performance came in the 110 high hurdles. Battling with Northwestern-bound senior Matt Harris from Lyons Township, Kendziera took off and simply would not be caught, winning in a state best and school record 14.06 — the 10th fastest time in the country this spring.
