    A Wood Dale letter to the editor: We all know where Hitler's gun regulation law led — World War II and the many lives lost, the Holocaust and the murder of 6 million Jews, just for being Jews. And yet, those who want us to think that the solution to all the killing by guns in the wrong hands is to take the freedom to keep and bear arms from all citizens in America.

Union officials announced early Saturday they reached a tentative agreement with the college’s administration. To take effect, the deal must be approved by the union’s membership and the college’s board of trustees.

    Negotiating teams for the College of DuPage and the school's faculty association have reached a tentative contract agreement — just days before a contract imposed by COD's board of trustees was set to take effect. The deal was struck just after midnight Saturday — the result of bargaining sessions on Thursday and Friday that lasted a combined 25 hours, said Faculty Association President Glenn Hansen.

    There have been very few rough outings this year for Bartlett righthander Colin Nowak, but one of them came during the regular season against Lake Park.The Hawks junior more than made up for that in Saturday's Lake Park regional championship, striking out 14 Lancers without a walk and defeating the hosts 5-3 for the baseball program's first regional title in 10 years.

    They have different backgrounds and different passions, but the high school seniors named to the Northwest Suburban Daily Herald Academic Team share the conviction it is their duty to contribute to society.     Addison police are investigating the death of a Yorkshire terrier that was shot while it was being walked near a forest preserve. The woman, whom police would not identify, was walking her dog about 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Fullerton Avenue, east of Villa Avenue, when she heard a faint "pop," Deputy Chief Mike Simo said.

    DuPage County Board members and four countywide elected officials won't get a pay raise for at least another four years. Board members agreed Tuesday night to keep their salaries unchanged through the end of November 2016. Nearly all of them make $50,079 annually. If he wins re-election, board member Grant Eckhoff will continuing earning $48,620 a year for the job.
