Jeremy Welsh notched 2 goals and Petteri Lindbohm, Yannick Veilleux and Shane Harper each scored for the Wolves (5-1-2-0). Goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped 18 shots to earn his first win of the season.

Forwards Dmitrij Jaskin (goal, 2 assists), Shane Harper, Ty Rattie, Rob Bordson, Pat Cannone (goal, 2 assists, Colin Fraser and Yannick Veilleux tallied for the Wolves, who featured 14 players recording points — including goaltender Matt Climie. Jeremy Welsh added 2 assists.

    The Chicago Wolves’ quest for the 2014 Calder Cup came to a close Friday night at Ricoh Coliseum as the Toronto Marlies earned a 4-0 victory to sweep the Western Conference semifinal series. Forwards Greg McKegg, Carter Ashton and Peter Holland and defenseman Korbinian Holzer scored for the Marlies, who handed the Wolves their first postseason sweep since the 2005 Calder Cup Finals. The Wolves outshot the Marlies for the fourth game in a row, but couldn’t translate that advantage into goals and an extension of the franchise’s 20th season.

     
  • Wolves trail 3-0 in series May 14, 2014 9:37 PM
    The Chicago Wolves are on the brink of elimination from the Calder Cup playoffs after the Toronto Marlies came up with a 4-3 overtime victory in Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals on Wednesday night at Ricoh Coliseum. Marlies forward Jerry D’Amigo scored the game-winner 3:28 into overtime to give Toronto a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. He crashed the crease for a rebound and had his backhand denied by Wolves goaltender Jake Allen, but D’Amigo fought off a defenseman and the sprawling Allen to lift the next rebound home and set off a wild celebration. Forwards Dmitrij Jaskin, Adam Cracknell and Tyler Shattock scored for the Wolves, who will face the Marlies in Game 4 at 6 p.m. Friday in Toronto.

The Wolves dropped both home games last week to the Toronto Marlies in the Western Conference semifinals of the Calder Cup — the American Hockey League’s top prize. The Wolves lost 5-2 on Friday, then fell 4-2 the next day. Game 3 is Wednesday, and what could be the deciding game of the series — Game 4 — is Friday night at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. Game 5 also is in Canada, while the final two games, if needed, would be back at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.
