Hinsdale South is a No. 2 seed but hasn't had a lengthy postseason since it made the super sectionals in 2004. In Class 3A Glenbard South is trying to turn a strong end to the regular season into a sectional title at home.

  • Leyden absorbs defeat against Willowbrook May 1, 2012 12:00 AM
First-half goals from Willowbrook senior captain Louisa Reese and freshman Jess Budig were enough to fend off a brave comeback from Leyden as the Warriors prevailed 2-1 in the rain in a West Suburban Gold matchup Tuesday at the Eagles West campus. The Warriors (6-11-2, 2-2-0) went ahead at nine minutes when Reese bent her free kick around the Eagles wall and into the far corner from 30 yards.

  • McGuire meeting heightens Benet vs. DGN appeal Apr 23, 2012 12:00 AM
Most games, Maeve McGuire is used to seeing her parents decked out in Benet black, red and white. Today could be an exception to that rule. McGuires No. 2 Redwings host No. 12 Downers Grove North this afternoon. It is just another nonconference game for Benet, but not in the McGuire household. Maeves younger sister Rowan is a sophomore outfielder for the Trojans. I think my parents are dreading this because one of us has to lose, Maeve said. I think theyre going to be wearing neutral colors.

  • Wheaton co-op just misses 160 Apr 14, 2012 12:00 AM
Wheaton co-op sophomore Ethan Sansone recently wondered aloud to coach Greg Gebhardt if the team could hit a 160 this season. It fell just short of that magic number during Saturdays Dave Donaldson Invitational at Wheaton Warrenville South, but its 159.26 was more than enough to beat defending state champion Lincoln-Way co-op, the distant runner-up with a 150.775.

  • Jordan Garcia of Addison scoops up a hit during the Addison Trail at Willowbrook baseball game Saturday.

Addison Trail, Willowbrok split Apr 14, 2012 12:00 AM
With the way things started Saturday against visiting Addison Trail, it seemed Willowbrook might be blown out at its own field. The visiting Blazers touched Warriors ace Alex Tiberi for 2 runs in the first and added another in the second for a 3-0 lead. With unbeaten lefty Mike Imperiale on the mound for the Blazers, the first game of Saturdays doubleheader looked like Willowbrook might struggle to keep things close. Instead, Tiberi (3-1) settled down nicely and the home team battled before eventually falling 4-2, leaving coach Vic Wisners snakebit team with its ninth loss already this spring by 2 runs or less. The Warriors broke the streak in the second game with a 3-0 victory. Dave Cericola (3-0) struck out 8 in a 3-hitter.
