  • Woodland Dist. 50 bus driver accused of molesting teen May 15, 2013 8:57 PM
    A Woodland Elementary District 50 bus driver has been charged with molesting a teenage girl who isn't a student at Gurnee-based school system, authorities said. Kristin Miks, 32, of the 33000 block of Sunset Avenue in unincorporated Wildwood, faces two counts of criminal sexual assault and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Lake County sheriff's police Sgt. Sara Balmes announced Wednesday. Miks was freed after posting 10 percent of a $150,000 bond.

  • Wildwood woman pleads guilty in fatal Waukegan accident Dec 10, 2012 4:21 PM
    A Wildwood woman will spend 30 months in periodic imprisonment after pleading guilty to aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol in Lake County court. Kristin Miller, 41, of the 52000 block of John Mogg Road, will also spend four years on probation for being intoxicated while driving when she struck a car driven by Freddie Adams-Dotson, 48, of the 3000 block of Norma Lane. Adams-Dotson was killed in the crash.

    Democrats get hammered for just about everything wrong in Springfield yet they pulled off two major victories in Lake County, with Sam Yingling upsetting incumbent Republican state Rep. Sandy Cole and Melinda Bush grabbing a vacant seat that last had been Republican. Observers say the candidates were very hard working and sincere in a desire to get something done in Springfield.

     
  • Sam Yingling upsets Sandy Cole for 62nd state House seat Nov 6, 2012 11:01 PM
    A strong grass-roots campaign and party support propelled Democrat Sam Yingling to an upset victory Tuesday over incumbent Republican in the 62nd state House District. With ballots in all 63 precincts counted, unofficial results showed Yingling defeated Cole 20,837 to 16,833. The count gave Yingling 55 percent of the vote. It also includes early votes and vote by mail totals.

     
  • Bush edges Neal to win 31st state Senate seat Nov 6, 2012 11:21 PM
    The Democrats took back the 31st state Senate seat as Melinda Bush edged Republican Joe Neal in a see-saw race. Unofficial totals had Bush with 42,097 votes to 39,945 for Neal for the seat covering northern and parpart of central Lake County formerly held by Suzi Schmidt, who did not run for reelection.
