St. Viator leads all-star effort Jun 15, 2013 12:00 AM
St. Viator was best represented in this year’s Class A all-star game at Sandburg in Orland Park on June 6 as Mike Julius, Dan O’Malley, Andrew Romano, Billy Spingola and Peter Trunk were selected to the team. O’Malley had a hat trick to lead the Black team, which was coached by St. Viator’s Bill Sanford, to a 16-8 victory over the White team.

Sammy Granger missed all of volleyball season with a back injury that also slowed her this spring. While pitching Tuesday, she had the unusual circumstance of a bee sting on the mound. Overcoming both, she put a hurting to Waubonsie Valley. Granger, Wheaton Warrenville South’s senior captain, hit a tone-setting three-run homer in the first inning, then took a shutout into the seventh as the No. 13 seed Tigers stung No. 4 Waubonsie 4-2 in a Class 4A Yorkville regional semifinal.

The Hilltoppers, along with St. Charles East, have the second-most state finalists, with WW South not far behind with six individual qualifiers. The programs' Emma Reifel and McKenna Kiple have had their fair share of dustups during cross country and track seasons the last four years.
