  • Wauconda comes back to top Wheaton Academy Nov 4, 2014 9:59 PM
Upon closer examination, that first set between Wauconda and Wheaton Academy might have been closer than first thought. The Bulldogs tied up favored Wheaton Academy at 7-7, but that was before this 30-game winner from DuPage County blew the doors off the team from Wauconda. And frankly, it wasn’t as close as the 25-18 final score. So it seemed to be just a matter of time before Wauconda’s terrific girls volleyball season would be over. Instead, Wauconda softball star Kayla Wedl began to hit the volleyball hard. And the blocking of Becky Sidlowski and Haley Meyer began to make a difference. Wauconda coach Alison Williams calls her players “The Comeback Kids.” And that held true as the Bulldogs (27-8) stormed back to end Wheaton Academy’s season 18-25, 25-23, 25-21.

  • Wheaton Academy shuts out Kaneland Oct 28, 2014 11:21 PM
Wheaton Academy forward Reid Culberson says the game of soccer is 80 percent skill, 20 percent luck. And every time you hit that post “that 20 percent’s lacking.” Maybe to other teams when they take 21 shots and nail a combination of 5 crossbars and posts, that luck has really run out. But for the top-seeded Warriors, may be there’s a little bit of extra on their side as those loud clanks of iron didn’t prevent Wheaton Academy from cruising to a 3-0 win in a Class 2A Hampshire sectional semifinal over No. 2 Kaneland Tuesday night.

  • Wheaton Academy inches away from St. Francis Oct 21, 2014 10:46 PM
A couple of inches is all it took to get Wheaton Academy refocused. • Hospital stay inspires Geneva teen to help others Oct 19, 2014 7:18 AM
Spending 14 weeks in hospital beds and a wheelchair could have ruined the summer for 15-year-old Lindsey McDonald of Geneva, injured when a horse fell on her. But she chose to concentrate on making life a little better for other patients at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, where she noticed other children weren't getting any gifts — “not even a balloon” — and their families struggled.

IC Catholic Prep's football team officially entered playoff mode this week and responded with Saturday's 20-10 Metro Suburban West victory over Wheaton Academy in Elmhurst. After suffering their fourth loss last week, the Knights (3-4, 2-1) knew they'd have to win their final three games to be eligible for the postseason.
