Just ask Wheaton Academy senior Cole Fritz why classmate Brandon Ruggles leads DuPage County in rebounding. “He’s just a horse,” Fritz said of Ruggles. He outworks everyone in there. Playing against him in practice, I hate rebounding against him because I know he’s going to work as hard as he can to get that board. And he takes a ton of charges. I think he has over 30 charges.”

The Wheaton Academy boys basketball team has become old hat at this. The Warriors clinched their fourth straight title in the Suburban Christian Conference on Tuesday with a 55-42 victory over Walther Lutheran in Melrose Park.

Basketball teams will conduct “charge” drills where a defensive player plants square in front of an oncoming offensive player. This drill typically occurs in practice. In Tuesday’s Wheaton Academy and IC Catholic Prep boys game it played out live.

Wheaton Academy took Marmion's best punch in the first quarter Friday night, then succeded in striking back the next three. The Warriors gave up 27 points in the first eight minutes, then just 31 more over the next 24 for a 73-58 road Suburban Christian Conference victory.
