    Special Olympics Illinois is proud to introduce a brand new fundraising initiative taking place on Sept. 28 at Six Flags Great America called The 2014 Coaster Challenge. Participants simply register, fundraise and ride the distance of a 5K, 10K or marathon (26.2 miles) on Six Flags Great America's world-class roller coasters.

     
  • Driver hurt after car crashes through West Chicago garage Aug 29, 2014 5:27 PM
    A man was flown to an area hospital Friday morning after the car he was driving left a West Chicago roadway, struck the side of a house and then continued into and through a garage, authorities said. Nearby resident Brad Janssen said he heard a “big bang” when the crash occurred. “Came outside, heard a bunch of sirens. Had to come over and take a look. Went behind the house, saw all the firefighters — about 30 firefighters behind there, wenching the car out of the garage,” Janssen said.

    West Chicago fire investigators believe lightening struck the roof of a barn on Prince Crossing Road and sparked a fire that caused minor damage Saturday, authorities said. The barn's owner was able to extinguish much of the blaze before firefighters arrived.

    U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, a Wheaton Republican, says he’s hired an Army veteran who was badly injured in an Afghanistan explosion to work on veterans issues. Retired Sgt. Shane Scherer was seriously injured in a 2009 explosion at his base in Afghanistan and will work out of Roskam’s West Chicago office.

    College of DuPage’s Homeland Security Training Institute has added a new concealed carry class designed to meet and surpass Illinois state requirements for obtaining a Concealed Carry License. This 18-hour class will offer its first two-day session on Saturday, Sept. 20, and Sunday, Sept. 21.

    This Sunday, the streets of downtown Geneva will be filled with cars and car lovers, when the 10th annual Concours d’Elegance rolls into town. The event will showcase 175 invitational cars from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free. Car clubs are expected to display about 100 more cars in the Kane County Courthouse parking area as well.
