    On March 16, West Aurora Unit District 129 school board approved the appointments of three new building principals. The new appointments are Kathy Kostos as principal of McCleery Elementary and Dr. Terry Collete as principal of Hope D. Wall School. With the retirement of Jefferson Middle School principal Pat Cross at the end of the 2014-15 school year, Shawn Munos has been approved as principal of Jefferson Middle School.

    The Illinois State Board of Education has authorized grants supporting before- and after-school enrichment programs serving nearly 70,000 students annually. Among the 87 grant recipients for 2015 are: Elgin Area School District U-46, East Aurora School District 131, West Aurora School District 129, West Chicago Elementary School District 33 and Community Unit District 300, who collectively will receive $3.24 million of the $33 million in federal 21st Century Community Learning Center grants.

  • Kiwanis Club of Aurora readying for “Coats for Kids” Oct 27, 2014 3:39 PM
    This winter, the Kiwanis Club of Aurora is part of a citywide effort of getting coats to needy children. The effort is called “Coats for Kids.” This year, they hope to raise some $22,000 from the community and to distribute some 2,000 coats to needy students at the elementary through high school level at West Aurora Unit District 129; East Aurora Unit District 131; Indian Prairie District 204, and Oswego District 308. Coats are going to be distributed Oct. 29-30 to some 29 schools based on a need assessment by the school’s social worker.
