A veteran Round Lake High School physical education teacher who claims to be a marijuana activist is due in court next month on drug-related and other charges, authorities said. Round Lake Police Chief Michael Gillette said the instructor, Gina Epps, was on her lunch break Jan. 29 when she was pulled over on a traffic stop. “She's a marijuana activist,” Gillette said. “That's what she told the officer.”

Police: Teacher caught smoking pot under bleachers free on bondFeb 13, 2013 12:00 AM
Peter Mulloy, the Warren Township High School special education teacher who was arrested Saturday for smoking marijuana under the bleachers at Antioch High School during a wrestling tournament, is free on bond, police said. Saying it is personnel matter, Warren Township High School District 121 officials would not comment on whether Mulloy has been suspended. However, officials said he was not working at the school Thursday.

It cost suburban taxpayers $574,197.48 to send 735 school board members and district administrators back to the classroom. The price tag for a weekend-long conference last November includes rooms at downtown Chicago hotels and many free meals, but the heftiest portion of the tab comes from the nearly $300,000 spent on registration fees for seminars, workshops and classes.

Warren Township High School in Gurnee is preparing to launch a search for a permanent superintendent who would take over for the 2013-14 academic year. Mary Perry-Bates was appointed interim superintendent in late June after Jeff Brierton resigned from the post before he ever started. Perry-Bates has been assistant superintendent and is set to retire in June 2013.
