    Hayden Humes scored 18 points and Daniel Barnes added 11 points and eight rebounds to lead Illinois-Chicago to a 58-46 victory against Northern Illinois 58-46 on Tuesday night. Gary Talton and Josh Crittle had 10 points each for the Flames (5-1), who have won five of the last six games between the teams.

    Josh Crittle scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds for Illinois-Chicago which survived a horrid shooting performance to get by Southeast Missouri State 56-45 on Saturday afternoon. The Flames (4-1) shot 28.8 percent from the field, or 19 of 66, but hit six 3-pointers and were 12 of 18 from the free-throw line while turning the ball over only five times.

    Kendall Williams scored 23 points and New Mexico withstood a spirited comeback bid by Illinois-Chicago in a 66-59 victory at the Paradise Jam on Friday.Demetrius Walker added 14 points for New Mexico (2-0), which saw its 13-point halftime lead whittled down to two, at 58-56, with 35 seconds remaining, after a steal and layup by UIC's Daniel Barnes.

     
  • UIC menís basketball tickets go on sale Nov 1, 2012 12:21 PM
    Single game tickets for the 2012-13 UIC men's basketball season are now available for purchase through the UIC Athletic Ticket Office, or online at Ticketmaster.com. The Flames will play 15 home games at the UIC Pavilion, beginning with Wednesday's exhibition game against UW-Platteville.

     
  • UIC basketball adds 6-9 transfer, Crittle Sep 10, 2012 1:05 PM
    UIC basketball has added former UCF and Oregon center Josh Crittle to is 2012-13 roster, head coach Howard Moore announced Monday. Crittle is transferring to UIC to complete his college basketball eligibility and attend graduate school. Crittle, a 6-foot-9 center and native of Bellwood, will have one season of eligibility remaining.

     
  • UIC adds 2 junior college players May 4, 2012 10:29 PM
    Two Murray State players, Jordan Lankster and Carlos Henderson, will leave the Oklahoma college to join the UIC Flames, head mens basketball coach Howard Moore announced Friday. Lankster, a 6-foot-5 wing, and Henderson, a 6-foot-9 center, will both have two years of eligibility with the Flames beginning next season.

     
  • Butler trounces Illinois-Chicago 69-44 Feb 28, 2012 10:01 PM
    Roosevelt Jones had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Butler to its fifth consecutive win, 69-44 over Illinois-Chicago on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs (18-12, 11-6) play their regular-season finale at Valparaiso on Friday. The Horizon League tournament began Tuesday.

     
  • Sykes helps Green Bay dust Illinois-Chicago 71-63 Feb 25, 2012 5:13 PM
    Keifer Sykes scored 27 points and Alec Brown had a double-double to lead Green Bay past Illinois-Chicago 71-63 on Saturday. Brown scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Phoenix (15-14, 10-9 Horizon League), who closed out the regular season on a five-game winning streak. Greg Mays added 13 points, and Sykes had six assists. Hayden Humes hit three 3-pointers and led the Flames (8-21, 3-15) with 13 points and nine rebounds. Paris Carter scored 10 points, and Matt Bush scored nine points on three 3-pointers. The Flames, who lost their third in a row, will be the ninth seed in the Horizon League tournament. Green Bay outshot Illinois-Chicago 45 percent (24 of 53) to 37 percent (22 of 60) and outrebounded the Flames 42-33. The Phoenix swept the season series, having won 71-68 on Dec. 1 in Green Bay.

The Bulldogs (18-12, 11-6) play their regular-season finale at Valparaiso on Friday. The Horizon League tournament begins on Feb. 28. Ronald Nored, in his final regular-season home game, had 12 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Nored and fellow senior Garrett Butcher played for Butler's back-to-back national finalists. Andrew Smith and Chrishawn Hopkins added 10 points for the Bulldogs. Butler has won 12 in a row in the series with Illinois-Chicago. Gary Talton had 13 points and Darrin Williams scored 11 for the Flames (8-19, 3-13). UIC broke a 26-game road losing streak Saturday at Eastern Illinois.

    DETROIT — Ray McCallum scored 26 points and Detroit withstood an Illinois-Chicago rally to win 70-66 Friday night. Eli Holman had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Titans (12-11, 6-5 Horizon), who have won five of their last six. McCallum made 9 of 11 shots from the field, including the only one Detroit made in 17 tries from behind the arc. The Flames stayed in the game by making 10 of 27 3-point attempts. Gary Talton led Illinois-Chicago (6-15, 2-9) with 17 points. Darrin Williams had 13 points and 10 rebounds for UIC, which trailed 43-26 early in the second half before storming back. Talton's two free throws with 38 seconds left got the Flames within 68-66, but Jason Calliste and LaMarcus Lowe each made a free throw to close it out. The Flames have lost 24 straight on the road in the Horizon League since 2009.

    DAYTON, Ohio — Julius Mays scored 33 points, including a school-record 19 of 20 free throws, to lead Wright State to a 69-63 victory over Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday night. Mays scored 19 points in the first half for the Raiders (10-12, 5-5 Horizon League), including 7 during a 12-0 run that gave Wright State a 14-3 lead. The Raiders shot 54.2 percent (13 of 24) in taking a 42-28 halftime lead, but they slumped to 21.1 percent (4 of 19) in the second half. A 13-0 run by the Flames (6-14, 2-8) early in the second half, including 7 points by Darrin Williams, brought them within 44-41 with 14 minutes to play. Wright Stateís lead was just 2 before Maysí 3-pointer made it 62-57 with 1:25 left. The Raiders made 7 of 8 free throws in the final minute to seal the win. Marc Brown led Illinois-Chicago with 17 points.

    Kevin Van Wijk scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to pace Valparaiso past Illinois-Chicago 60-55 on Saturday. Jay Harris came off the bench to score 13 points for Valparaiso (14-7, 7-2 Horizon) and Ryan Broekhoff scored 12 and had three steals. The lead changed hands 15 times and the score was tied on eight occasions. Valparaiso outscored Illinois-Chicago (6-13, 2-7) 32-10 in the paint and had a 23-17 scoring advantage off the bench. Gary Talton scored 12 points to lead Illinois-Chicago and Hayden Humes and Paris Carter each scored 11. Humes also had six assists and Daniel Barnes had three steals.

    Daniel Barnes had 18 points and Gary Talton scored 16 to lift Illinois-Chicago to a 58-51 victory over Loyola of Chicago on Saturday. All of Barnesí points came on 3-pointers. He was 6 of 9 behind the arc — the only shots he attempted for the Flames (6-11, 2-5 Horizon League). Darrin Williams added 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds for UIC. Walt Gibler led the Ramblers (5-12, 0-7) with 21 points on 8 of 9 shooting. His basket with 2:33 left got Loyola within 54-51, but the Ramblers didnít score again. Ben Averkamp had 10 points and nine rebounds for Loyola.

    Ashen Ward scored 22 points and Youngstown State led by as many as 30 points in a 71-50 trouncing of Illinois-Chicago Saturday night in Horizon League action.

     
  • Illinois-Chicago holds on to beat Detroit 63-59 Dec 29, 2011 9:46 PM
    Gary Talton scored a career-high 21 points, including all eight of his team's points during a seven-minute stretch of the second half, to lead Illinois-Chicago to a 63-59 victory Thursday over Detroit. Talton hit five free throws and a 3-pointer to help the Flames (5-8, 1-2 Horizon) keep pace and ultimately take a 60-57 lead with 3:12 remaining. Daniel Barnes, who had 13 points, added a free throw before the Titans (6-9, 0-3) cut it to 61-59 on a Doug Anderson dunk with 49 seconds left. Detroit had a chance to tie when Talton fouled Jason Calliste with three seconds left, but Calliste missed the front end of a one-and-one. Barnes got the rebound and hit two free throws to seal the win. The Titans came into the game shooting a Horizon-leading 73 percent from the free-throw line. Chase Simon led Detroit with 14 points, and Eli Holman scored 12.

     
  • Dayton beats Illinois-Chicago 64-57 Dec 23, 2011 8:39 PM
    DAYTON, Ohio — Josh Benson scored 13 points and helped lead a 17-0 run to give Dayton a 64-57 win over Illinois-Chicago on Friday night. Dayton (9-4) trailed 32-24 with 1:31 to go until halftime and scored 17 straight stretching into the second half. Devin Oliver started the run with a 3-pointer, and after grabbing an offensive rebound he put back a dunk with 36 seconds left in the half to pull the Flyers within three, 32-29. Dayton opened the second half with nine straight points to go up 41-32 and didnít trail the rest of the way. Benson scored six points during that spurt. Kevin Dillard chipped in 11 points for the Flyers, who got back on the winning track after falling to Seton Hall on Wednesday. Dayton has won four of its last five. Daniel Barnes led the Flames (4-8) with 17 points.

    Gonzaga (5-0) at Illinois (7-0) When: 2:15 p.m. at Assembly Hall TV: ESPN2 The skinny: No. 19 Gonzaga should be a good test for the undefeated Illini. The Zags lost top scorer Matt Bouldin, but return six of their top eight players. This yearís squad is led by 7-0 C Robert Sacre (16.6 ppg) and 6-1 G Kevin Pangos (15.0 ppg). PG Sam Maniscalco, a transfer from Bradley, has been a sensation for Illinois. He is the teamís top scorer at 13.3 points and is shooting 54.7 percent from the field. UIC (2-4) at Milwaukee (6-1) When: 1 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Arena Radio: WMVP 1000-AM The skinny: UIC had a lead with less than two minutes remaining, but ended up losing at Green Bay 71-68 on Thursday. Starting guards Daniel Barnes and Gary Talton combined to score 31 points. Milwaukee held Loyola to just 41 points on Thursday and is limiting opponents to 37.1-percent shooting on the season. Loyola (1-5) at Green Bay (3-4) When: 7 p.m. at the Resch Center The skinny: This game finishes a stretch of Loyola playing seven of its first eight on the road. The Ramblers lost at Milwaukee 59-41 on Thursday as Ben Avercamp and Walt Gibler combined to score 25 of the 41 points. Loyola was out-rebounded 42-20. Green Bay edged UIC 71-68 on Thursday. Nebraska-Omaha (2-5) at Northern Illinois (0-6) When: 3 p.m. at NIU Convocation Center The skinny: The Mountain time zone wasnít any friendlier to NIU, as the Huskies dropped games at Boise State and Utah Valley last week. NIU is shooting .351 from the field as a team, while freshman guard Abdel Nader is the top scorer at 11.3 ppg. Omaha is led by 6-4 senior Mitch Albers at 19.4 ppg. — Mike McGraw
