Legendary York cross country coach Joe Newton is nearing the end of his famed Long Green Line. At a news conference Wednesday at the Elmhurst high school, one of the coach's three children, Thomas Newton, announced his father will retire following his 61st cross country season at York this fall.

Western Illinois pays tribute to program's top baseball achievers

In cooperation with the current Western Illinois baseball coach Ryan Brownlee, former Leatherneck and Libertyville resident Connie Kowal has organized the last three baseball alumni weekend tributes for the team. The tributes began in 2014 with the 40th anniversary of the 1974 Leathernecks baseball team which was considered one of the greatest in program history.

Lakes junior Cameron Ruiz earned Class 3A state titles in the long jump and triple jump, while Stevenson senior Jared Borowsky struck gold in the 3,200-meter run and Grant senior Octavian Wells won the 400 dash in Saturday's boys track and field state meet finals.
