Although Moe Patel’s name remains on today’s election ballot, only write-in votes for the Democratic Schaumburg Township trustee candidate will count, Cook County election officials say. Courtney Greve, a spokeswoman for the Cook County Clerk’s Office, said Patel’s name physically appears on the ballot but written notices were given to every township voter at the polls Tuesday indicating that votes for his name on the ballot won’t be counted.

A slate of Democratic candidates removed from the Schaumburg Township ballot in January are back in the race after an appellate court Monday overturned the ruling that put them out of contention. Democratic trustee candidates Moe Patel, Mike Murray, Carolyn A. Quinn and Zuhair Nubani and highway commissioner candidate Michael Lenehan will challenge a largely incumbent Republican field April 9.
