    Seven months away from the sport she loves, Sydney Vischer is back with a bounce in her step. Wheaton Academy will gladly reap the benefit. Showing energy and determination throughout, Vischer put down 8 kills in leading Wheaton Academy to its second straight strong road win to start the season, 25-20, 25-21 over Timothy Christian on Thursdsay in Elmhurst. An ankle injury cost Vischer the second half of her sophomore high school season.

    Lisle's baseball program returned to familiar ground on Saturday. That meant standing in the middle of the diamond and posing for pictures with a shiny new regional plaque. After a two-year absence the Lions claimed the Class 2A IC Catholic Prep regional title with a 7-0 victory over Timothy Christian at Redmond Park in Bensenville.

    Lisle 7, IC Catholic Prep 4: The Lions (17-10) advanced to the Class 2A IC Catholic Prep regional final with a win over the host Knights at Redmond Park in Bensenville. Lisle faces Timothy Christian in the title game at noon Saturday. Kevin Coppin drove in 3 runs while Cliff Krause and Ryan Van Volkenburg had 2 hits apiece in support of complete-game winning pitcher Alex Ventrella. Cruz Ortega went 3-for-4 for IC Catholic Prep. Timothy Christian 5, Westmont 1: The fourth-seeded Trojans (8-14) advanced to the Class 2A IC Catholic Prep regional title game by upsetting top-seeded Westmont. Mike Wieringa pitched a 4-hitter for Timothy Christian, which scored twice in the second inning before adding insurance runs in the sixth and seventh inning. Benet 5, Marian Catholic 3: The Redwings (20-7, 11-4) wrapped up a share of the East Suburban Catholic Conference title by scoring all their runs in the fourth inning. Rallying from a 2-0 first-inning deficit, James Colletti launched a 2-run homer and Pat McInerney added a solo shot. Winning pitcher Chris Whelan allowed 1 hit in 5 innings of relief. Lake Park 3, Waubonsie Valley 2: The Lancers (24-7, 20-4) clinched a share of their first Upstate Eight Conference title since 1996 when Tom Spear’s sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning drove in Devin Rybacki with the game-winning run. Spear’s 2-run fifth-inning single tied the game for Lake Park, which received a complete-game effort from Eric Vatch. Tyler Hasper homered for Waubonsie Valley (15-14, 13-11). Naperville Central 11, West Chicago 1: Trailing 1-0 after three innings, the DuPage Valley Conference champion Redhawks (22-7, 17-4) exploded for 9 runs in the fifth inning and 2 runs in the sixth. Nick Thomas drove in 3 runs and Luke Daley added 2 hits and 2 RBI. Winning pitcher Cody Campbell allowed 3 hits and struck out five. Naperville North 5, Glenbard North 1: Winning pitcher Robert Leonard scattered 5 hits, struck out two, walked none and allowed no earned runs as the Huskies (16-11, 12-9) salvaged the third game of the DuPage Valley Conference series. Mark Khoury drove in 2 runs and John Sagen went 2-for-3. Ryan Storto had 2 hits for Glenbard North (17-11, 14-7). West Aurora 3, Glenbard East 2: Danny Ryan, Nick Vichio and Alex Gospodarek had 2 hits apiece for the Rams (11-22, 7-14) in their DuPage Valley Conference loss. Ridgewood 8, Glenbard South 5: After the Raiders (16-9, 12-5) sent the Metro Suburban Conference game to extra innings by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh, Ridgewood responded with the 3 go-ahead runs in the top of the eighth. Ethan Gasbarro went 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI. Zach Smith added 2 hits. Bartlett 5, Metea Valley 2: Michael Mooney and Andy See drove in runs for the Mustangs (14-14, 12-12), who fell in the Upstate Eight Conference. St. Francis 8, Plano 1: Andrew Brundage went 2-for-2 with a triple, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI for the Spartans (16-11) in their nonconference victory. Alex Alcantara and Josh Croci also had 2 hits. Mike Kelly pitched 5 innings in earning the win on the mound. Willowbrook 4, Bolingbrook 1: Dom Battaglia, Kevin Johnson and Dom McDonnell each drove in a run in the Warriors’ nonconference victory. Dave Cericola struck out six and allowed 1 hit in 3 innings for Willowbrook (20-10).

    Stephanie Chitkowski struck out 11 in a 3-hit shutout, No. 3 Glenbard South winning at Elmwood Park 10-0 on Tuesday. Payton Carli went 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored an an RBI and Danielle Scarpiniti 2-for-3 with 3 RBI for the Raiders (22-4, 11-0 Metro Suburban Conference). Fenton 5, Timothy Christian 4: Nicole Susmarski’s two-out, 2-run single in the fifth inning proved to be the game-winner for the Bison. Marisa Voss struck out 13 for Timothy Christian. Benet 11, Manteno 9: Trailing 9-4, the No. 4 Redwings (19-7) tied it with 4 runs in the sixth and won it with 2 in the seventh. Shannon Mills led off the seventh with an infield single, Marissa Panko, who was 4-for-5, doubled, Ali Michalik, who was 4-for-4, singled in the go-ahead run and Julianne Rurka added a run with an RBI fielder’s choice. Nazareth 3, Montini 2: Back-to-back homers by Mia Davis and Colleen McGivney in a 3-run seventh inning rallied the Roadrunners. Cristina Barrett went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and 2 RBI for Montini (23-7). Neuqua Valley 15, East Aurora 0: Mac Spittal (8-3) twirled a 1-hitter, striking out three, and the Wildcats (17-10) pounded out 15 hits. Aurora Central 5, Lisle 4: Gabi Alfaro went 2-for-4 with a triple, double and 2 RBI for the Chargers at the Class 2A Aurora Central regional.

    Naperville Central 3, West Chicago 2: The Redhawks (20-7, 15-4) clinched a share of the DuPage Valley Conference title when Jeff Schank’s RBI single in the top of the seventh inning drove in the game-winning run. Jimmy Nashert pitched a 3-hitter. Schank also homered while Nicky Lopez went 3-for-3. Jon Michiels doubled and drove in the lone run for West Chicago (4-22, 1-18). Benet 3, Marian Catholic 1: The Redwings (19-7, 10-4) moved a step closer toward the East Suburban Catholic title after lone runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie. Joe Boyle, who went 2-for-3, Kevin Jendra and Tim Veselik drove in runs in support of winning pitcher Tony Predey. Robert Haemmerle notched the save. Neuqua Valley 7, Bartlett 1: The Wildcats (23-8, 20-5) won their ninth straight game while closing out their Upstate Eight Conference schedule. Three runs in the fifth inning and another 3 runs in the sixth helped Neuqua Valley pull ahead. Mike Riesner went 3-for-4 while Jeff Evak and Alex Wolanski drove in 2 runs apiece. Jonathan Vlk was the complete-game winning pitcher. Glenbard North 13, Naperville North 3: The Panthers (16-10, 13-6) ended the DuPage Valley Conference game in six innings after eight players had hits and seven players drove in runs. Nolan Jasinski, Jeff LaPage, Adam Villanueva and Matt Stencel each had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Kyle Crites was the winning pitcher. Carson Brown and Mark Khoury went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Naperville North (15-10, 11-8). Timothy Christian 14, Northridge Prep 0: The Trojans (7-14) advanced to the Class 2A IC Catholic Prep regional semifinals after scoring 5 runs in the first inning and 9 runs in the third. Emerson Bandemer allowed 1 hit over 5 innings. Brandon Scott and Justin VanderNaald homered and drove in 3 runs apiece. Willowbrook 7, Leyden 3: The Warriors (19-9, 11-7) swept in the West Suburban Gold after a 6-run fourth inning broke a scoreless tie. Brian Johnson went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Tyler Vavrek had 2 hits and Jeremy Kucik drove in 2 runs. Addison Trail 5, Morton 0: A 3-run top of the second inning gave complete-game winning pitcher Anthony Infantino and the Blazers (10-21, 7-11) all the offense they needed while taking two of three in the West Suburban Gold series. Jordan Garcia went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Downers South 5, Glenbard West 2: Danny Mayer and Anthony Vattimo homered for the Mustangs (26-5, 15-3) in their West Suburban crossover victory. Zach Taylor went the distance on the mound. Will Simoneit drove in a run for Glenbard West (12-17). West Aurora 5, Glenbard East 1: The Rams (11-20, 7-12) managed 4 hits in the opening game of their DuPage Valley Conference series with West Aurora. Joe Kotch drove in Glenbard East’s lone run in the fourth inning. St. Joseph 10, Wheaton Academy 5: Kyle Uitermarkt drove in 3 runs while Sam Perna and Dylan Hughes each had 2 hits for the Warriors (5-19) in their nonconference loss. Hinsdale Central 3, Downers North 2: The Red Devils (15-11, 10-8) held off a seventh-inning rally to top Downers North (18-9, 12-6) in the West Suburban Silver. Matt Muellner went 2-for-3 with a homer and 2 RBI. Chris Bokich pitched 6 innings to earn the win. Joe Provenzano homered and had 2 RBI for the Trojans.

    Naperville Central 5, Wheaton North 4: Brian Schiemann’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Redhawks (17-5, 12-3) the DuPage Valley Conference victory and their third straight win over the Falcons (18-6, 10-5). Schiemann, Nicky Lopez and Jeff Schank had 2 hits apiece for Naperville Central. Tom Colletti and Greg Scandora did the same for Wheaton North. Metea Valley 12, South Elgin 6: The Mustangs (11-12, 9-11) belted 17 hits while taking two of three from South Elgin in the Upstate Eight Conference series. Mike Fitzgerald went 4-for-5 with a double, home run and 2 RBI. Tamal Kumar scored twice and had 3 hits. Lake Park 9, East Aurora 2: The Lancers (20-5, 16-3) won their ninth straight Upstate Eight Conference game and maintained their two-game lead in the loss column over Neuqua Valley atop the Valley standings by completing the three-game sweep of the Tomcats. St. Francis 9, Ridgewood 6: Alex Alcantara, Jason Sullivan and winning pitcher Jack Petrando combined for 7 hits, 7 runs scored and a pair of RBI at the top of the order for the Spartans (14-9) in their nonconference victory. C.J. Humes drove in 2 runs. Willowbrook 8, Proviso East 2: Matt Gasiamis pitched a 2-hitter with 9 strikeouts as the Warriors (14-9, 8-7) completed a three-game West Suburban Gold sweep. Tyler Vavrek and Chris Villafuerte drove in 2 runs apiece. Illiana Christian 2, Glenbard South 0: Hard-luck losing pitcher Ethan Gasbarro pitched a 1-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 5 walks as the Raiders (14-6, 10-3) fell in the Metro Suburban Conference. Illiana Christian scored both its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Westmont 9, Lisle 8: Westmont broke a 7-7 Interstate Eight Conference tie by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lions (14-8, 9-4) tried to rally with a run in the seventh but a fielder’s choice with runners on first and second base ended the game. Ryan Van Volkenburg went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and 4 RBI. Alex Ventrella also had 3 hits. Elmwood Park 4, Timothy Christian 3: Elmwood Park scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning to edge the Trojans (3-14, 3-11) in their Metro Suburban Conference matchup. Luke Davidson went 3-for-4 and Brandon Scott doubled twice and had 2 RBI for Timothy Christian.

In the wake of the Metro Suburban Conference Board of Control's unanimous vote Wednesday to accept seven current Suburban Christian Conference schools effective the 2014-15 academic year, it leaves Montini, St. Francis, Marmion, Rosary, Aurora Christian and Marian Central taken by surprise and twisting in the wind.

    Lisle 4, Seneca 0: Alex Ventrella came an error away from a perfect game, pitching a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Lions (11-6, 8-2) in their Interstate Eight Conference victory. Ryan Van Volkenburg doubled and homered. Billy Loconsole also had 2 hits. Wheaton North 10, West Aurora 0: Winning pitcher Tom Colletti went 3-for-3 with 5 RBI and allowed only 3 hits while striking out three for the Falcons (16-3, 9-2) to cap their DuPage Valley Conference sweep. Ryan Kent, Johnny Peltz and Lake Bachar each had 2 hits. Glenbard East 4, Naperville North 3: Greg Ludwig’s 3-run homer in the bottom of the fourth powered the Rams (7-17, 3-9) to their second straight DuPage Valley Conference win over Naperville North (9-7, 5-5). Nick Vichio also homered while D.J. Spears was the complete-game winning pitcher. Mark Khoury homered and Pat Mollo had 2 RBI for the Huskies. WW South 9, West Chicago 6: With the score knotted at 6-6, the Tigers (13-7, 8-3) scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge West Chicago (3-14, 0-9) in the DuPage Valley Conference. Rich O’Neil homered and drove in 3 runs. Matt Walsh doubled with 2 RBI. Chris Amen won in relief of Baylor Holmes. A.J. Seidler went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Wildcats. Neuqua Valley 12, Metea Valley 3: Drew Sterioti went 3-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI for the Wildcats (14-7, 11-4) in their Upstate Eight Conference victory. Dylan Goss also homered. David Gerber allowed 3 hits over 6 innings to win on the mound. Michael Mooney drove in 2 runs for Metea Valley (5-12, 4-10). Naperville Central 10, Glenbard North 3: The Redhawks (14-4, 9-2) capped a key DuPage Valley Conference sweep in Naperville. Jeff Schank and Jeff Lucas had 3 hits apiece while Nick Thomas drove in 2 runs. Zach Aranoff was the winning pitcher. Brett Consitt went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Glenbard North (11-7, 8-3). St. Francis 4, Marian Central 2: The Spartans (10-7, 7-3) scored all their runs in the first two innings of their Suburban Christian Conference victory. Alex Alcantara and T.J. Jackson each had 2 hits while Andrew Brundage had 2 RBI. Jack Petrando pitched 6 innings for the win. York 5, Hinsdale Central 3: The Dukes (10-11, 6-8) broke out to a 5-0 lead and held on late to take two of three from Hinsdale Central (11-6, 7-5) in their West Suburban Silver series. Pete Doughty and Dan Cirone had 2 hits. Tyler Zunkel drove in 2 runs in support of complete-game winner Anthony Santos. Jacob White went 2-for-4 with a triple for Hinsdale Central. Leyden 9, Addison Trail 8: Jordan Garcia went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI for the Blazers (7-13, 5-7), who scored a run in the top of the seventh while trying to rally to victory in the West Suburban Gold. Nick Rybarczyk and Rocco Costabile drove in 2 runs apiece. Hinsdale South 10, Morton 0: Seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning ended the West Suburban Gold victory for the Hornets (15-5, 10-5). Winning pitcher Mike Marrera, who struck out seven and allowed 3 hits, had 2 RBI at the plate. Mike Rizzo went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Aurora Christian 7, Wheaton Academy 4: Chris Johnson tripled, homered and drove in 3 runs in the Suburban Christian Conference loss by the Warriors (1-13, 0-10). Illiana Christian 8, Timothy Christian 6: Emerson Bandemer went 3-for-4 with a 3-run homer and Cole Miller went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly, but the Trojans (1-11, 1-8) fell in the Metro Suburban Conference.
