7-year term in fatal Sugar Grove DUI Jan 24, 2013 12:00 AM
A 48-year-old former Elburn woman was sentenced to seven years in prison Thursday after she pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI in the death of a 54-year-old Marengo man, William McKenzie, in March 2009. Linda Knotts, who now lives in Aurora, had cocaine in her system and was driving erratically before the head-on crash along Route 47 in Sugar Grove.

No referendum on video gambling in Sugar GroveAug 21, 2012 12:00 AM
If three trustees had their way, Sugar Grove residents would be asked in an advisory referendum whether the village should ban video gambling. But President Sean Michels ruled against that idea Tuesday night. And the proposal was likely moot, as the deadline for putting such a question on the November ballot was Aug. 20. "You don't believe in (being) democratic?" asked Trustee Tom Renk. "No, I believe we are elected to make decisions," Michels replied.

Veteran of ‘forgotten’ War of 1812 honored in Sugar Grove Jun 9, 2012 12:00 AM
A War of 1812 veteran -- whose 14-day service ultimately resulted in him moving to Illinois -- was honored with the placement of a new headstone on his grave in Sugar Grove, by descendants from Iowa. It was done in time for the 200th anniversary of the war, which started on June 18.

Sugar Grove family sues after plane crashes near home Feb 2, 2012 12:00 AM
A family sues the estate of a Florida man who crashed his plane near a Sugar Grove home on Jan. 23, 2010. The suit argues that the deceased pilot, Gary Bradford Jr., was negligent. The crash also killed another man from Florida and damaged the home. The pair were headed to Colorado when their plane went down just after taking off from Aurora.

Kane County Forest Preserve adds 2 parcels Sep 8, 2011 12:00 AM
Kane County Forest Preserve officials announced the purchase of two pieces of land, one in Sugar Grove, the other in Gilberts, as the latest purchases with money obtained by the $30 million tax increase county residents approved this spring. The two pieces cost them about $1 million and bring the total land holdings of the district to 19,232 acres.

Lil Adams has been a devoted volunteer in Sugar Grove for the last 44 years, whether it was helping at her children's school, serving at the Community House or working at the annual Corn Boil. She was named Sugar Grove Citizen of the Year Friday.
