    Crews were on scene of a fire at a two-story house in Sugar Grove Friday night, authorities said. The fire broke out in the 600 block of Wildwood Drive about 7:30 p.m., according to an official with the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District.

    The crisis response team at Elgin Area School District U-46 sprang into action this week in response to the death of one of its elementary students. Jesus Gonzalez, 9, of Elgin, drowned Sunday in Jericho Lake at Jericho Lake Park in Montgomery. Social workers and counselors were on hand in Jesus's school, the name of which was being withheld Wednesday, as the crisis team helped students, staff members and families cope with the tragic loss.

In Elgin, the ceremony marked the latest in annual tributes that have been conducted since 2001. “We never want a year to go by that we don't remember,” said Tricia Dieringer, American Legion Post 57 Americanism chairman, who has coordinated the ceremonies every year for the last decade.
