The band is affiliated with St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Park Ridge and performs a new show there every other year. "A lot of our members enjoy the opportunity to do something really goofy," said Paul Phillips, who founded the band 33 years ago.

    On Feb. 15, Geneva High School senior saxophonist James Bartusek was the winner of the 18-22 year-old age category in the Union League Jazz Improvisation Competition in Chicago. He also received a $1,500 cash prize. James was also the lead alto saxophonist at the Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Music Festival (Honors Combo - Jazz Division) in Peoria in January.

    St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights played the “Sound of Music” to a sold-out house every night for six performances earlier in February, a fitting response to the effort put in by nearly 200 students — with 160 cast members divided into alternate casts, 20 musicians in the orchestra and another 20 providing technical support. In this video clip, the Mother Abbess, played by Jenny Lim, sings the stirring, “Climb Every Mountain.” Lim shared the role with Maddy Kelly in alternate performances. “The Sound of Music” was St. Viator’s 46th annual musical.
