Hoffman Estates dog park nearing completionJul 18, 2012 12:00 AM
A new $133,000 Hoffman Estates dog park called Freedom Run is nearing completion. The 4-acre park will include a small dog area, water sources, shaded spots and five pieces of agility equimpment that a 15-year-old is building as part of an Eagle Scout service project. A grand opening for the park — which will serve primarily Hoffman Estates, Streamwood and Elgin residents — is scheduled for September 8, but a soft opening will occur sometime in August.

Streamwood to hold new summer orchestra camp Apr 23, 2012 12:00 AM
Fabian Lopez believes that summer music camp is an ideal way to help music students grow and excel at their art. So much so that this Bartlett resident and former student of Dorothy Deen, the cello teacher in the Bartlett Center for the Arts, has spent several months working with the Streamwood Park District to create a four-week intensive string orchestra camp for students in grades four-eight, with sessions held from 9 to 11 a.m., June 18-June 29 and July 9-July 21.

The intergovernmental agreement with Hoffman Estates and Streamwood park districts for joint use of a 4-acre park was given preliminary approval March 7 then voted down March 21 before being reconsidered during the city council meeting Wednesday night

Elgin residents wanted a dog park but officials were having trouble finding a location that wasn't surrounded by houses. Same story in Streamwood. Hoffman Estates Park District had a location, the desire for a second dog park within city limits and an interest in intergovernmental agreements. A collaboration was born.
