No regrets for Michael Waller as he leaves office Dec 2, 2012 12:00 AM
Lake County State's Attorney Michael Waller will retire Monday after 22 years as the county's top prosecutor. Despite criticism he's faced in the past two years stemming from four high-profile cases overturned because of evidence of wrongful prosecutions and false confessions, Waller says he'll leave office with his "head held high" and with no regrets over how those cases were handled by his office.

Nerheim tops Kennedy for Lake state’s attorneyNov 6, 2012 12:00 AM
Republican Mike Nerheim won the race to become the first new Lake County state's attorney in more than two decades. Nerheim of Gurnee bested Democrat Chris Kennedy of Libertyville in a battle between former prosecutors to succeed Republican state's attorney Michael Waller. Waller opted not to seek re-election after 22 years in office.With all 415 precincts reporting, unofficial totals showed Nerheim with 136,771 votes over Kennedy with 131,257.

Naperville Republicans hold Will County seats Nov 6, 2012 12:00 AM
Two Republican incumbents retained their Will County Board seats Tuesday in District 11, which covers southern Naperville. Unofficial final vote totals show board members Suzanne Hart and Charles "Chuck" Maher defeated Democrat Chris Griffin.

Patlak leads; Alvarez, Brown win big in CookNov 6, 2012 12:00 AM
Democrats continued their domination of Cook County's top elected offices Tuesday, with incumbents State's Attorney Anita Alvarez and Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown appearing to sail to victory with considerable margins. With about 98 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial election results also showed Democrats prevailing in races for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District board and recorder of deeds. Appearing to defy the trend was Wheeling Republican Dan Patlak, who was leading in a close race for the Board of Review.

Kennedy wants in-house review, while Nerheim advocates outside experts. Both are former Lake County prosecutors looking to replace Republican Michael Waller, who is retiring after 22 years in office.
