The biggest outdoor dodgeball tournament of the year is coming to Schaumburg's Olympic Park July 13 and 14. The 13th annual National Amateur Dodgeball Association's Dodgeball Days Outdoor National Championships will feature the crowning of the outdoor national champions.

Schaumburg Boomers a hit with 5,000 fans May 26, 2012 12:00 AM
The return of professional baseball to Schaumburg — after a nearly two-year hiatus — proved to be as successful in the stands as it was on the field Friday night. A crowd of more than 5,000 mostly orange-clad fans cheered the Schaumburg Boomers on to their first home victory, beating the Florence Freedom 5 to 2.

Though Opening Night isn't until May 25, new fans can get their first sample of Schaumburg Boomers baseball in a charity game to support the Les Turner ALS Foundation at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 4 at Boomers Stadium. The newly arrived Boomers players will take on the ALS Chicago North Men's Senior Baseball League Strikers in a game whose $10 tickets will go entirely to the ALS Foundation.

At an open house Saturday, the Schaumburg Boomers announced that former White Sox player Carlos May, 63, would be part of the coaching staff. May, a left fielder, spent most of his career with the White Sox, but also played for the New York Yankees and California Angels, as well as playing from 1978 to 1981 in Japan.

‘Monsters’ 20th reunion will draw a big crowd Mar 7, 2012 12:00 AM
When Mike North and Dan Jiggetts get together again Thursday night for a Monsters 20th Anniversary Event at Arlington Park, about 250 of their closest friends and fans will join them. Among the special guests for the buffet will be former Bears players Jimbo Covert and Steve McMichael as well as Blackhawks broadcaster Eddie Olczyk. Participants will be part of a live show that will be taped. As North says, it will be a "blast."

Five of the six teams named grand champions Sunday at the annual Team Dance Illinois competition in Peoria come from suburban high schools. Three of those grand champions Vernon Hills, Lake Zurich and Neuqua Valley high schools claimed their titles in the dance portion of the competition.

Coop the Boomer led the crowd in the new “Booming Dance,” adapted from the dance of the male greater prairie chicken, from which the team gets its name.

Schaumburg's new professional baseball team will be called the Schaumburg Boomers, or prairie chickens. “The nickname boomer comes from a remarkable dance that the animal does,” said general manager Andy Viano. “It will look like its ears – but it's actually the feathers on its back – stand up, (and) the air sacks on the side of the neck ‘boom' out.”
