    South Elgin High School named Dan Mandernack as its new girls basketball coach Tuesday. Mandernack, 41, has been the Storm's freshman coach the past two seasons. He is a 1991 Dundee-Crown graduate.

  • Dobler pitches South Elgin past Metea Valley May 3, 2014 3:21 PM
    South Elgin sophomore pitcher Karli Dobler was elevated from the junior varsity team to the varsity three weeks ago, and she passed a big test with flying colors on Saturday against Metea Valley. First-year Storm coach Stephanie Katzenberger called on Dobler to come on in relief of senior Paige Allen with two outs in the top of the fifth inning and the Mustangs leading 3-1. Metea Valley had runners at first and second and senior Jenna Hall coming up with a chance to break the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division softball game wide open. But Dobler got Hall to ground out to third, the Storm scored 4 runs in the bottom of the inning and Dobler wiggled out of jams in the sixth and seventh as South Elgin notched a 5-3 win in South Elgin.

    The South Elgin boys volleyball team not only finished second at the Hersey tournament Saturday, the Storm also established a new program record for wins in a season.

    The South Elgin baseball team is coming out of the weekend feeling a whole new sense of optimism. After knocking off Streamwood on Friday the Storm followed it up on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of 3-1 and 12-2 in 6 innings against visiting Bartlett in Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division action. South Elgin entered the weekend having lost 5 of its last 6, but has now surged back above the .500 mark at 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the Valley Division.

    South Elgin's Alyssa Buddle and Cassidy Westland made quick work of East Aurora in a 17-0, 5-inning Upstate Eight Conference win for the Storm.

     
  • Ege in fine form for BC; Kaneland wins at CL Central May 2, 2014 11:31 PM
    The rest of the hurdlers never had a chance against Burlington Central junior standout Lucas Ege in Friday’s 41st Annual Crystal Lake Central Invitational at Metcalfe Field. Ege won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.28 and claimed top honors in the 300 hurdles in 39.4. “This was good competition tonight and I will get better as the competition gets better,” said Ege. “I still have a lot of work to do before the sectionals.” Ege was one of the main reasons the Rockets finished second with a score of 91 points. Kaneland, which won its second straight title, overpowered the field with 160.5 points.

    The Burlington Central girls’ track team is the midst of an important part of its schedule. The Rockets recently won their own Rocket Relays event and will compete in the annual Kane County meet Friday at Kaneland.

  • Pagan, Bartlett outduel Dobler, South Elgin Apr 30, 2014 7:48 PM
    The wind was blowing out, but the cold weather made it a game fit for a pitchers’ duel when Bartlett hosted rival South Elgin in an Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division softball game on Wednesday. Holly Pagan tossed a 2-hitter for the Hawks and the Storm’s Karli Dobler did a masterful job pitching out of jams, but Bartlett’s 12-hit attack capped by a 3-run home run by Katie Fornoff in the sixth inning gave the hosts a 4-1 victory.

    Huntley senior Angela Tribuzio had her batting eye seeing 20-20 Saturday against two of the top teams in the Daily Herald area. Tribuzio belted a home run in each of the Red Raiders’ wins at the Libertyville quad, a 9-7 win over No. 1 Libertyville, and a 10-1 drubbing of No. 10 Wauconda and sophomore phenom pitcher Kayla Wedl.
