    It would have been a hard April Fool’s joke to swallow for South Elgin if one of its 31 shots didn’t go in during a 1-0 Upstate Eight Valley girls soccer win over rival Bartlett at Millennium Field Tuesday. After all, the Storm’s defense didn’t allow much to get to goalie Jordan Vaulkner and South Elgin outshout the Hawks by 27. But Bartlett’s best antics behind goalkeeper Amanda Lozada’s 17 saves brought South Elgin to the brink and as Storm coach Tiffany Disher said it for her team, “if (Bartlett) were to break away and just get one, it would be a sad story for us.”

    Tim Prendergast never really envisioned himself coaching girls basketball. “I never paid much attention to the girls game,” he says. But when Jason Schaal decided to focus on being South Elgin’s head softball coach, Prendergast decided to accept the challenge of building the Storm’s fledgling girls basketball program. Now, seven years later, Prendergast has decided to step down from the head coaching position of what has become one of the most competitive and respected programs in the area.

With four different girls scoring and eight girls attempting a shot on goal, the Storm dominated in a 5-0 win at Millennium Field to earn a spot in Thursday’s South Elgin Invitational title game against West Chicago.

    New South Elgin softball coach Stephanie Katzenberger didn’t really need much help giving her battery a scouting report on Wednesday’s season-opening opponent. The Storm traveled to Rosemont to open the season against Oak Lawn, the program Katzenberger coached in for the past seven years, at The Dome at The Ballpark, and South Elgin dominated the Spartans, sweeping a doubleheader 12-0 and 9-2.
