    Uncle Mark would be so proud of his niece. Schaumburg junior Christina Candotti has made a commitment to play Division I softball at Butler University in Indianapolis. Mark Candotti passed away four years ago but Christina will remember him forever.

    Burlington Central junior Emily Kisch became the third Fox Valley area underclass softball player in the past week to commit to a scholarship when she gave coach Amanda Bradberry her verbal commitment to attend school and play for Upper Iowa University.

    St. Edward junior Lindsay Zdroik wanted to find a small school close to home to call her college home in two years. Division I Valparaiso University will be that school. Zdroik gave her commitment to coach Kate Stake’s softball program on Sunday night after returning home from participating in a Crusaders’ camp.

    When Morgan Olszewski played her final softball game for Barrington High School, she decided that her career would come to an end.“I always toyed with the idea of playing collegiate softball,” she said. “But when I needed to make an official decision, I wanted to focus solely on my academics, since my end goal is to go to medical school.” But all that changed over the past few years and Olszewski couldn’t be more grateful that Loyola University has given her a chance to play as a walk-on in the Division I program.

    A privately operated sports organization planning upgrades at a park owned by Lake Zurich taxpayers is seeking public money to pay for a portion of the $61,500 project. Village board members this week heard a pitch from the nonprofit Lake Zurich Baseball and Softball Association regarding $15,000 for the possible construction of a paved path to allow handicapped access from a parking lot to a ball diamond and bleachers at Staples Park.

    It was less than two years ago when area softball fans were watching one of the all-time best displays of home run hitting. Loren Krzysko became Barrington’s all-time home run hitter in the spring of 2012 when the 2012 Daily Herald all-area honorary softball captain belted a school-record 18 and finished her career with 42. Both numbers rank No. 9 on the all-time IHSA list.Krzysko is now a redshirt freshman for Arkansas, which opened its fall softball season 10 days ago. Guess her hit the first homer of the season for the Razorbacks? In the second game of a doubleheader with Oklahoma State, Krzysko had 4 hits including a homer as the Razorbacks won 14-5 to gain a split with the Razorbacks.

  • Softball field renovations start this month at Oakton Community College Sep 22, 2014 4:12 PM
    Renovations to Oakton Community College’s softball field in Des Plaines are expected to begin this month. Crews plan to regrade the field to create a flat playin area, install automated sprinkling and full field drainage systems, and rebuild the field dugouts and backstop. The college’s board of trustees recently approved a $383,889 contract for the project.

Burris-Paramski will be honored for her post high school days in three weeks when she is inducted into the Lawrence Hall of Fame as one of six new members.

    Hoffman Estates’ police officers and firefighters will hold their second annual Shootz & Ladderz Softball Fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at Cannon Crossings, 1675 Nicholson Drive, in Hoffman Estates. Proceeds will go toward new Citizens Fire Academy equipment for the fire department.

     
  • Wheeling to host national softball tourney Aug 25, 2014 2:13 PM
    The Amateur Softball Association will hold its men’s Class A 16-inch national slow pitch championship tournament at Wheeling’s Heritage Park beginning Friday. The draw for the 32-team tournament will be held Thursday evening with the first games scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at the newly renovated park, which features four synthetic turf fields under the lights.

  • Judson names Venus Taylor new softball coach Aug 18, 2014 9:13 PM
    Judson University was no stranger to Venus Taylor, who was an assistant coach with the Chicago Bandits when the Bandits played at the Elgin college. So when Becky Pearl left the Judson softball job after 10 years to become the head coach at Lewis University, Taylor immediately had an interest in the job. On Monday, Eagles’ athletic director Joel Cotton named the well-known former pro player as Judson’s new coach. Taylor started her new job right away and had a hard time containing her excitement for the challenge ahead of her.

    Talk about a no-brainer. New Jacobs athletic director Jeremy Bauer made it official on Friday — Katie O’Brien is the Golden Eagles’ new head softball coach, succeeding Bauer himself. Could it have been anyone else? Not likely.

  • USSSA Pride downs Bandits Aug 1, 2014 10:52 PM
    Cat Osterman’s stellar pitching shut down the Bandits as the USSSA Pride won game two 3-0 to even the series at one game a piece. Bandits’ rookie Sara Moulton faced off against Osterman in the circle. For the second time this series it was the Pride who got on the scoreboard first with Madison Shipman’s RBI single in the first inning to open the scoring. Megan Willis’ solo home run in the second extended the Pride lead to 2 runs.
