Behind Monday's 6-1 vote by the Glenbard High School District 87 School Board in Glen Ellyn, Glenbard East will sever its 30-year ties with the powerhouse athletic league in hopes of finding a more competitive situation. Glenbard East is now free to join the UEC, although the vote did not adhere to a specific timeline.

    Fired Maine West High School freshman soccer coach Emilio Rodriguez has requested a hearing to appeal his dismissal over allegations of hazing among team members, Maine Township High School District 207 spokesman Dave Beery said Thursday. Rodriguez, a tenured teacher in the applied arts and technology department, was the second Maine West coach to be fired over the hazing scandal. His dismissal in late January came more than a month after the school board fired head boys varsity soccer coach Michael Divincenzo after accusations surfaced that senior members of the soccer team hazed freshman teammates.

    Like the best trades, the deal the Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew will announce Monday works for both teams. The Fire will ship speedy forward Dominic Oduro to Ohio in exchange for 23-year-old Dilly Duka, a promising midfielder without much of a pro resume yet. But one of the hidden features of the deal, sources said, is that the Fire also acquires the MLS rights to midfielder Robbie Rogers, 25, should he decide to return from Europe.
