Moved by the tragedy at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, runners will take to the streets Monday evening in Naperville for a 5K in solidarity with the victims of the bombings. Naperville Running Co. expects 200 participants to show togetherness in the running community a week after the 117th Boston Marathon ended with three people dead and more than 170 injured. "People area going to wear the Boston Marathon colors, which are blue and gold, or whatever race shirts they have if they haven't done Boston," owner Kris Hartner said.

Good news on the economic front for Elk Grove Village: the town’s industrial vacancy rate fell to 8.6 percent in the first quarter of 2013, a marked decline from 12.3 percent in the first quarter of 2011, and 11.8 percent last year. “Village leadership is committed to maintaining a competitive and a business-friendly environment,” Elk Grove Mayor Craig Johnson said.

Two new businesses that have opened in downtown Lombard this year could lead the way for more new shops in the coming weeks and months. A nail spa and an office for a pet-sitting business are the newest additions to the area, and a golf shop is likely to be next, said Michelle Iwinski, executive director of Lombard Town Centre. “A lot of these are coming our way naturally, suddenly,” Iwninski said. “The next step is to get out there and actively recruit exactly what we want.”
