Throughout the campaign we stayed on message and that message was to return Illinois to the kind of state where we are proud to raise our families, McConnaughay said. And we need to send people to Springfield who are not afraid of making the tough decisions.

Kane County Board member Jim Mitchell on Tuesday called out Chairman Karen McConnaughay and fellow board member Cathy Hurlbut for campaign donations the pair have received from a land owner who will profit in the county's Interstate 88/Route 47 project. The board has stalled on another ethics ordinance vote before the primary election. Mitchell said he'll keep publicly citing such campaign donations until the board forces elected officials to publicly and vocally report such contributions before taking votes. It resulted in a heated exchange between Hurlbut and Mitchell.

  • Upset McConnaughay disavowed STOP Mar 3, 2012 12:00 AM
Letter to the Editor: I was very disheartened to read Karen McConnaughay’s retort to the endorsement by STOP for her opponent Cliff Surges this week. That Mrs. McConnaughay, now experienced in representation, could say anyone’s opinion is irrelevant is strange and sad. How clearly it defines her political character. Every voter, every entity, has a relevant voice.

McConnaughay says endorsement of Surges ‘irrelevant' Feb 15, 2012 12:00 AM
Karen McConnaughay may have gotten the endorsement last week of Peter Roskam, but the grass-roots organization that essentially launched her political career years ago is thumbing its nose at her.
