It ended with seventh-graders making a thoughtful presentation to lawmakers on solving the current immigration crisis. In between, students in Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 learned a lot.

In the race for the 27th state senate district, incumbent state Sen. Matt Murphy is being opposed by Democrat David Page, president of the Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 school board. Murphy, a Palatine lawyer who was first elected in 2006, didn’t have a primary challenger in March. Likewise, no Democrats ran in the primary, and Page was slated this summer.

Judge rejects appeal in Illinois 27th Senate District Aug 31, 2012 12:00 AM
Democrat David Page will appear on the ballot in his bid for the 27th Senate District seat, currently held by Republican state Sen. Matt Murphy of Palatine. A Cook County judge Thursday ruled that an earlier decision by the Cook County Electoral Board, which overruled a challenge by Tea Party member Beatrice Sutton of Palatine to Page's nominating petitions, couldn't be appealed in the courts.

They're putting David Page, Curt Renz and Rich Rudd, only one of whom has ever held office, on the ballot in hopes of forcing the incumbents to be more moderate.
