Republican Casey Urlacher sounded confident this week that he would overcome an effort to keep him off the March primary ballot in his effort to move up from Mettawa mayor to the Illinois Senate. The brother of former Chicago Bears great Brian Urlacher faces two objections to the petition signatures he filed to run to succeed state Sen. Dan Duffy of Lake Barrington.

Mettawa Mayor Casey Urlacher is running for the 26th District Illinois Senate seat that will be vacant following state Sen. Dan Duffy's decision not to seek re-election in 2016. Urlacher said he feels he has the youth and work ethic to do some good in Springfield.

State Sen. Dan Duffy will hold onto his seat in the 26th District with an overwhelming victory Tuesday over Democratic challenger Amanda Howland. "I'm so excited and encouraged," he said of the results. "I want to get back (to Springfield) and continue to tackle the pension problem and get the state of Illinois back on top."
